April 5th, 1952 - October 5th, 2022
Alice Watson passed away peacefully on October 5, 2022. She dedicated her life to her family and to supporting her mentor, President Daisaku Ikeda, and the members and friends of the Soka Gakkai International. Her life was filled with bright memories of practicing in her youth into adulthood with Tommi and her many beloved friends; continuing the fight each day whether she was in good health or not.
As a young woman, she was in the Fife and Drum Corps, where she played the bass drum and participated in many festivals. She practiced hard and was doing Youth Division and District activities almost 24/7! Her priority was her family's safety and happiness as well as the happiness of the SGI members she supported; focused fiercely on world peace, truth, and justice. She also determined to have President Ikeda recognized throughout the bay area, working with other members to organize events that would highlight the achievements and goals of her mentor and of the SGI.
In 2007, she won the Soka Crown Award in recognition of contributions to the Soka Gakkai's movement for peace, culture, and education based on the ideals and principles of Buddhism.
Alice had a great sense of humor, was very serious and passionate, loved Japanese cuisine and Korean noodles, no matter the day she was always dressed to impress, was a beautiful calligrapher, had a passion for pens, and was always ready to spend time with her family. Her life shone brightly and she was loved dearly by her daughter, Tommi, Emile, and a special few friends who were always there for her. We will miss her forever and she will always be in our hearts.
