A Spirit That We Will Never Forget.

We created a memorial webpage to celebrate the life of Alfred "Al" Stubbs. Collecting your stories and memories here will offer us great comfort. As we plan virtual and in person gatherings, we will share details here. Thank you for contributing to this lasting memorial.

Al passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on 12/18/2020 at the age of 17 years. Al was born January 31st 1949 at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois to Martha Stubbs and George Stubbs. He was the eighth child of ten children, which included Georgia, Mack, Marvin, James, Demetrious, Berdina, Dianna, Alfred, and then the twins - Herman and Norman.

Al was raised on the southside of Chicago. He attended Dunbar Vocational Career Academy High School where he was a star football player. Which led to Al's career where he widely and fondly known as "Coach Al." All of the southside probably knew of him because he was a constant presence at most of the parks there.

In 1973 Al was coaching at Shoesmith Park where he met the Gober family, who would later become his step-family. Al and Marsha were joined in marriage in 1979. And from that union, Al became step-father to David Stephen Gober, Denise Elisa Gober, Michael Anthony Gober, Christopher George Gober, Darryl Gober, and Phillip Peter Gober. A few years later Jason Charles, Joseph Matthew, and Lucia completed the family. Also, Al leaves behind a host of grand children and great-grand children who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service is being planned by the immediate family. Updates regarding the service will be posted as soon as possible. Flowers and condolences may be offered at 7610 Mid Town Rd Apt. 201, Madison, Wisconsin 53719.

I'm sorry to hear of Al's passing. I looked forward to seeing him at conventions again as soon as restrictions lifted. I was thinking about him today and realized I hadn't heard anything about him in a while so on a hunch I searched for him and discovered this obit. I'm so sorry. He was such a goofy, fun, and loving brother. Will see him soon again in Paradise. (John 5:28, 29)
