Loved Ones

In every act of kindness and every moment of love, his spirit lives on.

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Alexandre Hidayat Toulelle on December 4, 2024. At just 26 years old, Alexandre was a bright light in the lives of those who knew him. His creativity, warmth, and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.

He was a loving son, a cherished brother and uncle, and a friend to many, touching lives with his kindness and unwavering support. Alexandre will be remembered for his infectious laughter, his ability to light up any room, and his generous heart. His selflessness shone brightly through in how he always made it a priority to care for those around him, putting their needs before his own. He loved connecting with people and found immense joy in simple moments shared with family and friends.

He leaves behind a family who adored him: his mother, Myriam; his brother, Gael; his sister, Laetitia; his sister in law, Krystle; his nephews and niece, Thibault, Luca, Anaïs; his aunt, Muriel; along with his loving girlfriend, Anika, and countless friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Alexandre’s life was a testament to his commitment to bettering the world around him. He cared deeply about education and believed in the importance of following one’s passions. His dedication to this was evident in his constant encouragement of others and his desire to create opportunities for those in need.

While flowers are appreciated, we kindly encourage donations in Alexandre’s memory to an organization dedicated to providing access to education and advancing opportunities for those in need—a cause close to his heart. Details and donation links can be found below.

We will forever carry Alexandre’s light within us.

I was in a few plays with Alex, he was a wonderful actor and a wonderful soul. Despite not knowing him well, he had an energy that could bright up other people's day. It is with devastation that I hear the news of his passing, I want to send out so much love and warmth to his loved ones during this time. There are never the right words in these situations, if we can take his example to follow his causes he cared about people immensely. He will always be remembered - Madeleine

Alex and I became friends sitting together in French class at IBS in Aix. Every class he was making everyone laugh and was such a bright presence. After IBS we attended McGill together. He was such a huge rock for me during this time, always checking in on me and inviting me over for the most incredible meals. Every friend I ever introduced to him would comment on how deeply funny and warm he was. After we graduated we’d have a blast catching up when I’d come back to Montreal, and I was always so thrilled to hear about the life he’d built for himself there. Thank you to Myriam and Alex’s family for bringing such an incredible human into our lives, I am so sorry I can’t be there tomorrow but I am sending all my love to you. I will never forget Alex and his friendship, kindness and laughter.

My dear Alex, You had the capacity to make friends with anyone you met and our friendship was no different. From the day you joined our school in Aix, we instantly became friends. I remember when we found out we were neighbors, we were both so excited. But even after you moved out of the residence, enlisting my help in the process, we kept seeing each other for movie nights and sleepovers as if you were still next door. You’d tell me all about your life in KL and educate me on internet pop culture. And of course, it wouldn’t have been high school without lots of studying. You were much better than me in chemistry and math (and pretty much everything else) but you always took the time to help me, never losing patience. With Rosalie we were so inseparable that our professors used to make all sorts of jokes about our “throuple” and we’d just go along with it. Getting into McGill was almost as exciting as knowing you’d be there with me. What an adventure it was to move to Montreal and figure out our new lives there! You really did make everything better and some of the happiest moments in my life were spent with you. I will never forget your energy and your smile. You will be dearly missed my friend.

Dear Alex, (still in my phone as secret lover), I can’t pinpoint the exact moment we became friends. It just sort of happened during all those classes we shared at IBS. We clicked right away over shows like Suits, where you affectionately called me your Donna. Not long after, T. joined us, and the three of us became inseparable—just like the Three Musketeers. Looking back at our old Messenger chats (back when it was still the coolest thing), I see so many graphs and equations we sent each other during homework calls. Then there were the occasional pictures of potential crushes to gossip about, and, of course, the endless stream of memes that never failed to make us laugh. There are two memories with you that will forever stand out to me. The first is when the three of us—T., you, and I—spent two weeks at my house to study. We’d wake up ridiculously early, study in complete silence, and then head off to chemistry class with Mister Tricker. After that, it was economics with Pablo, before finally reuniting at the end of the day to have dinner and watch Under the Dome. The second memory is when you visited me in Amsterdam. I taught you how to ride a bike, introduced you to my friends, and we celebrated our first official legal drink together at a club. I will miss you so much. We grew into adults side by side, and you’ll always be such a huge part of that journey for me. Wherever you are now, I hope you’ve found happiness and peace. And maybe, just maybe, you could turn into a bird every now and then and poop on us—just so we know you’re still with us. My heartfelt condolences go out to your family, your friends, and everyone lucky enough to have known your wonderful smile, your razor-sharp wit, and your unforgettable humor. P.S. I found a few pictures of us—Snapchat filters and memories from weekends spent together. I’ll treasure them always. With all my love,

Sharing a picture from when I was so sure Hidayat would win an award (the Robert B. Gaw Award), that I made him sit in the spot I was in when I won the award. When he didn’t win, I cried, and HE consoled ME. That memory sums up Hidayat for me. A wonderfully kind, emotionally intelligent person that brought so much joy to everyone around him. I feel lucky to have experienced a friendship like his in this lifetime. Not many people can say they’ve known such authentic friendship. Rest easy, beautiful boy.
