"i've been consuming a lot of good omens analysis and some people are so rustled by the fact that crowley and aziraphale never tell eachother they love each other. i never say 'i love you'. you don't need to say words for the feeling to exist"

Alex touched both Carlos and me in a way that made our hearts lighter and our days brighter. They made us want to cheer them on toward their dreams while laughing out loud as often as possible along the way. The amount of talent Alex carried in just one pinky finger is more than most people could ever hope to have in a lifetime. They were a beautifully disruptive spirit — the kind of voice in a meeting you waited for, knowing it would come from a perspective no one else in the room could offer. And whether insightful, irreverent, or both, it always left a mark. Alex could work on simply anything — from Bob’s Burgers to Alien, from The Simpsons to Avatar, from Predator to Spider-Man. When they went to Warner Bros., they made the same unforgettable impact. Carlos came to rely not only on their exceptional work but also on their gift for bringing levity in stressful moments. Their belly laughs and quick wit were gifts to all of us. We will remember Alex deeply. I’m grateful to hold small keepsakes — a popcorn bucket they doodled on during the Avatar premiere screening, and the memory of wide smiles at the Fox Christmas party. These little treasures carry their spirit forward. Rest in peace, dear Alex. You gave us laughter, joy, and creativity in abundance, and we will never forget you.

Alex and I knew each other for years. We were fandom friends first; bouncing from one franchise and ship to the next fairly often. Then, one of us made an offhand mention about work, and we realized not only did we both work for the same studio (Fox), but we worked in the same building. After that, we grew even closer; meeting up on the lot to commiserate and laugh and unwind. We were both impacted by the Disney acquisition, and Alex made the move to WB first. They held out a hand, and I quickly (for a given value of quick, in that it took a dozen or so interviews) followed. We enjoyed WB together for almost two years before the layoffs, then mourned the loss of being coworkers once they moved on. But once they landed at Jazwares, I could tell they’d hit their stride. We chatted over discord fairly often, and always made sure to make plans on/around each other’s birthdays. Our last conversation was so damn brief; it’ll always be something I regret, because I had no idea it would be the last time we’d talk. I miss you, Alex. You and the noodles and the swag you’d always have on hand from wherever you called (professionally) home at any given time. Here’s a snapshot of my most treasured gift from them: a pastel crocheted octopus 🐙

Alex, I hope you can take a minute out from the afterlife, wade through your celestial harem of scruffy fictional men with poetically-tragic pasts, and find a spot with good wifi, because I didn't get to say all this stuff before you left. Remember when we met, in 8th grade? My father passed earlier that year. Withdrawn, actively resisting new friendships, everyone walking on eggshells around me - but not you. You caught me doodling my little demons and kissing catboys and were so excited to share your drawings with me while we pretended to know how graphing calculators worked. Alex, you were the first person I felt comfortable being queer around. The next four years of art class with you became my favorite part of high school. What a joy to spend all that time with you! You helped me believe in myself when I would cloud myself with self-doubt and perfectionism. Almost gave me enough confidence to go to art school with you (but we both know it would have kicked my ass.) It's almost funny how often we'd drift apart, then reconnect like no time had passed, then drift apart again. I wish I tried a little more to get it to stick. But I'm glad we got to talk this year. I used all my birthday wishes on you while you were in the hospital. I couldn't find a good photo of us. That's okay. I know you didn't really like being in photos. All your illustrations are bangers, and somehow you managed to draw these incredible scenes and characters right before our eyes while we played D&D. Joe will always be one of my favorites. He's in the pantheon now, forever. The next party I play for will love him too. This year's been hard. I miss you, I love you, and I hope you're having a good time up there.

Alex was the kind of soul that left a mark on everyone they knew. Talented without ego, kind without condition, unapologetically themselves. They made the world better just by being in it. I am grateful to have had known Alex. The good ones always leave first.

I was to introduced to Alex through my roommate Kelsey because we were both in the falcon and the winter soldier fandom and she thought we should follow each other. We eventually met for the first time at a Rhys Darby show and bonded over how crazy the rest of the fans there were. Here’s us last year with Kelsey at LA Pride
