Alex was kind with an infectious smile. It didn’t matter if you saw Alex yesterday or five years ago, he always welcomed you in with a big hug. He is surely giving us all a big smiley hug right now. He was social and loved being around his friends, family, and just people in general. Alex was engaged and interested in whatever conversation you were having with him and his quick wit and cleverness was sure to make you laugh. His relationship with each person was his own and he never let the opinion of others influence that.
Over the past few years Alex spent a lot of time with his nephews, Eli (3) and Hudson (1), who adored him. Grandma takes care of the boys 3 days a week so fun Uncle Alex is a huge part of their life. You could find Alex zooming the boys around the house like an airplane, building Lincoln Logs, fixing broken toys, eating lunch together, making baby Hudson laugh and smile, grabbing a kid from Grandma to give her a hand, and so much more. If a toy would break Eli was quick to say Uncle Alex can fix it and Eli woke up many mornings on a Grandma day asking if uncle Alex was going to be home.
Alex’s company brought lots of fun, laughter, and teasing for his Mom and Dad (Lori and Mark). In the mornings Alex would banter with his dad. He would then say goodmorning to his Mom and sit down with a cup of coffee while watching the news and silly videos on his phone, stopping to laugh or share something funny or interesting with his Mom. In the afternoon Alex would head off to his job as a server, naturally he was a great server always getting compliments and big tips. When he got home after work they would all greet each other with a happy hello and Alex was always quick to share a work story. Later on he would plop on the couch with his parents to find the best movie. Rotten Tomatoes and other reviews had to meet Alex’s high standards or it was a no-go, so after a good 30 minutes of researching they would finally settle on a movie. Milo, their dog, always had to be sitting right next to him, Alex being a dog-lover would exclaim “he loves me!” in his cheesy Alex way.
Mom, Dad, Alex (and Milo) treasured their time together. It is so clear from the outpouring of love and messages received from Alex’s friends that he loved his Momma and knew he had the best Pops. He was proud of his sister (Rachel), enjoyed hanging out with his brother-in-law (Mike), and loved being an uncle. His love for his family could always be seen at Christmas time, he loved giving gifts and would heartfully ask all day and night “Do you like this? Are you sure you like this?”. Family was important to Alex.
Outside of his family life Alex loved having knowledge of the world, always reading and watching the news. He used facts not emotion to understand history and current events, always teaching and helping his Mom to understand what was happening. He was constantly checking out cars and knew exactly what practical car to buy, an Impala. He also had a need for speed and loved fast cards, specifically Camaros, Chargers and Mustangs, his dream car being a Charger. Alex loved the city, he liked being around busy streets and bright city lights. He was working hard to save up to move to Denver to enjoy both city life and be able to escape to the mountains for a hike.
As a child Alex was an adventurer, with his big sister tagging along. When he moved to Holmen at the age of 8 he would spend all day exploring their five acre property. His favorite family camping trip was Voyageurs National Park “Canada”, which is still his favorite place. Alex would pack string, a pocket knife, and duct tape for days spent exploring the islands and he loved putting on a pair of goggles to search for ‘gold’ around the rocky shoreline.
Alex always wanted to fly. At the age of three you could find his grandpa tossing him in the air, Alex begging him to throw him up “one more time”, at age five you could find him wearing a Batman cape jumping off a large rock in the front yard of his home in Muskego, at the age of eight he grabbed wood and other materials to make wings to fly off the deck of his home in Holmen, and at age ten you could find him jumping off cliffs in Canada. He is certainly flying high now.
Alex earned the nickname “Gadget Man” when he was a little boy, and as he grew his gadgets just got bigger. He was always taking things apart, learning how they worked, and putting them back together.
Even at a young age Alex was a great driver. While his sister was running an ATV into a tree he was two years younger shaking his head wondering how that happened. He spent his middle school summers riding around on dirt bikes with his two best friends. And when on the river he always wanted to drive the boat full throttle.
Alex had many interests and anyone that has known Alex over the past 28 years was lucky to have been a part of his life, no matter what age you met him at. The memories of Alex will live on through all of us.

I saw it was Alex's Birthday today, I met Alex about ten years ago through my now ex boyfriend. I always got along great with Alex. I always thought he was really funny and his laugh always ended up making me laugh every single time. I was very sorry to hear that he passed away. I think of him often. I can't begin to imagine what the family must be going through and the pain they still have from such a tragic loss of a close family member. I send thoughts, prayers and healing vibes your way. Rest in paradise Alex. Always missed and never ever forgotten! Happy heavenly Birthday!!!!

I was shocked and sunken with sadness to hear the news about Alex. Took a few days to collect some thoughts and words to say. I had the pleasure of having Alex as one of my closest friends during our prime boyhood years, and my only close friend who lived within an easy walking distance from my childhood home. Uncountable memories from my youth involve running the hills of Evans Valley with Alex, making forts, riding our dirtbikes, air soft battles, camping out at eachothers house, and so many other amazing adventures to the Wisconsin Dells, Lake Wazee, Mississippi river, the list goes on and on. We used to bike to the nearby black river bottoms and catch fish and cooking them up for lunch, and jumping off the old bridges into the backwater swamp i cringe at now. We even biked all the way into town a couple times in the summer while our parents were at work. Of course we also were in school together and rode the bus togeather. Its safe to say the majority of our boyhood days involved one another to some degree. I think everyone has a friend or two who they share those memories of the simpler days of their youth with, and I was lucky to share them with Alex. Alex was a loyal and generous friend. Alex had a wild side like most boys, and we definitely played with fire from time to time. Both literally and figuratively. I will always miss you old friend, it breaks my heart to think we wont be able to run into each other again someday, somewhere, and laugh about our childhood spent together. But Alex will always live on as a character in the stories I tell my children of my childhood. Thank you Mark, Lori, and Rachel for bringing me along on so many adventures with your family, and letting me share so much time with Alex. I hold you all dear to my heart. With love, your friend, Sam Schank
