I first met Scott when he was hosting a big birthday barbecue. I hadn't met much of the extended family and he was so warm and welcoming from his first giant handshake. It made me feel like part of the family from the first day, and I'll always be thankful for that. Most of my memories of Scott are from these family gatherings. He'd be surrounded by all this food and people and conversation but would always take the time and care to hang out with the little kids and pets running around (all who adored him). I think of him making Henry crack up or scratching a pup behind the ears while it licked him and saying "thanks for the kisses." I think of his big, warm handshake and smile and I'm so sorry that he's gone.

Scotty's warmth and wit and playfulness all come to mind when I think of him. What a wrenching loss. Like my sister, Stacey, I too share a vivid memory of our beloved cousin Scotty from the same evening during Garth's first wedding. However, because I was only 9, it was radically different in substance (and substances!). Equally dazzled by the ensemble of Garth, Quay, and Scotty, I remember distinctly Scotty bending down, prince-like, from what seemed like the heavens to ask me to dance. If I'd been in my later awkward teens I might have been too embarrassed to accept, but given his gentle manner and great beauty, I was thrilled. One other keen memory was from decades later when my husband and I lived in North Collinwood. We loved spending time with Garth and Scotty and their families whenever possible and I clearly remember Scotty holding baby Conor way up high and then getting down on the floor to chat with three-year-old Quay (our Quay). His spirit entranced them just as it had me. I send our deepest sympathies and love to Pat and Quay and Garth and their beautiful families. As I mentioned to Quay, the moving tribute you wrote about Scotty helps ease the sting a bit as do the other memories and photos being shared by family and friends. Love to all.

Scottie was a dear and special soul. I recall a bumper sticker On his car that said something like…he wanted to feed the world, cook for everyone. And he did.. he fed the souls around Him by his kind and and gentle ways, never rushing, always taking his time to show he cared. He was such a devoted and giving husband and father and grandfather.

Growing up, I was smitten with my somewhat older, very glamorous, slightly wild Proctor cousins. We Sparks lived on the West Side, so we didn't see them as often as I wished, but I have brief, vivid memories of them. I adored Scotty. I can still hear his voice and see his smile. He had a strong physical presence that reminded me of my grandfather Emery, and whenever I see a certain kind of big Scottish or English actor with a strong nose and strong jaw and fresh coloring, I'll think to myself, Oh, there's a cousin. One little anecdote: I think of Scotty as nearly saintly, but at Garth's first wedding, I sat at a table with Scott and his friends and he fetched me plenty of drinks and cigarettes. I got completely drunk and had a great time, and all right under the eyes of my parents! For a sixteen-year-old, which was younger then than it is now, it was the perfect mixture of reckless rebellion and total safety. The last time I saw Scott was at my parents' house in Olmsted Falls a few years before they moved to Connecticut. (Maybe Christmas 2014?) He was his usual wonderful self, and I was so happy that my daughters Dinah and Emery got to talk with him as adults. When Scott got sick, he asked if I had any genealogical records from the Quay and Emery sides of the family, and luckily, my mother had collected quite a few. I made copies and sent them off; I hope he was able to enjoy them a little. I'm so sad for Pat, for Scott's children and grandchildren, and for my beloved cousins Garth and Quay. My mother, who virtually never cries, cried when she heard the news.

I'm going to miss Uncle Scott asking me to make a tie dye for Pat! God Bless.
