Nicolas Regisford

One of my fondest memories of my godmother, Auntie Venice, was when she visited us in South Africa in the early 2000s. Family and friends were gathered, Auntie Venice was naturally the life and soul of the party, and then she asked us to play Nas, a hip hop artist, and his song I Can. It was unexpected, but so completely her. It showed the richness of her exposure and her wonderful ability to find positivity and inspiration in different generations and streams of culture. She embraced positivity, lived it and somehow became the centre of it. Years later, I visited Auntie Venice and her late husband, Uncle Keith, at their home in Jamaica. I remember the stories of the mango trees and her garden, but most vividly, we spent more than four hours watching the DVD of their wedding, with play, pause and repeat being the order of the day! She had married later in life and was simply so happy to relive and share every moment. That joy, her love of life, people, nature and everything created by God, was Auntie Venice. I am deeply grateful that God gave me her as my godmother. Rest in peace, Auntie Venice. Until we meet again in Heaven. Nicolas Godson

Dr. Venice Guntley-McKenzie A Tribute By Methlyn Regisford & Family In loving memory of my dear friend. Venice. Venice and I first met when she arrived as a deaconess at the Lusaka, Zambia Cathedral. We connected immediately and spent a lot of time together socially. Our friendship blossomed and she became part of the Regisford family. Venice was delighted to accept the invitation to be our son Nicolas’ godmother. On her days off we would spend time together sharing cookery ideas, sewing tips, interspersed with lots of chat and laughs. We attended many social events together. Venice was the life and soul of the party. She really enjoyed life to its fullest. Venice was highly thought of by the church community, where she made some lasting friendships. Sadly, we had to say goodbye when Venice left for Canada for further studies in Theology. We kept in touch and visited each other periodically. Venice was one of a kind with a heart of gold. She had the ability of being able to connect with people of different background. Her radiant smile, the love she shared, and her passion for playing the guitar at any given moment, endeared her to many hearts. Our most vivid memory, and the last time we saw Venice, was when she visited to attend our daughter Dianne’s PhD graduation in 2019 (Dianne, please check and amend the date). Dianne and Venice shared a September birthday. It was great that they could celebrate together. At the party Venice really enjoyed herself, and showed off her love of dancing. We have some wonderful memories of this time (Dianne, please find a photo—if possible) Venice was a wonderful mentor and taught me a great deal and trust in our amazing God. She demonstrated the fruits of the spirit which are: LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS AND SELF-CONTROL in her daily walk with GOD. Venice will be missed by our entire family----- especially our son Nicolas. Gone too soon, but will never be forgotten. REST IN PEACE dear Venice, until we meet again.
