April 21st, 1954 - November 12th, 2021
April 21st, 1954 - November 12th, 2021
Nona Socorro Segui passed away November 12, 2021 at the age of sixty seven in Quezon City, Philippines. She was a loving aunt, sister, daughter... Family and friend to many.
Nona was born at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital in Manila on April 21, 1954. Nona grew up in Quezon City, finished grade school at Far Eastern University and high school at the University of the Philippines Integrated School at Diliman, Quezon City. Around this time, she and her brother Nonong were diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, which meant that she would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Despite the steadily increasing physical limitations she encountered, she graduated with a BS in Psychology in University of the Philippines, Diliman.
Nona worked at the Human Resource Department at the National Housing Authority in the 1980s. On top of her disability and a full time career, she also helped raise her sister Victoria's children, Crispin, Lorena and Rhodora. Her career at NHA spanned more than 3 decades and she retired at 65. She bravely fought muscular dystrophy and was peacefully taken by the Lord at 67.
Nona lived her life simply and prayerfully. Her life is a shining example of faith, bravery and determination.

May the LORD GOD grant you rest in His presence, Nona. What is it like to run free in Paradise in the presence of your God and Savior?
Crispin
Dear Tita Nona, You have left this world in triumph, a hero. You departed in your sleep, freed from all pain, worries and care, and have risen to the Infinite. It is hard enough to be heroic for a few years in jail or a few moments in battle – but it is unbelievably hard to remain heroic for 6 decades with your body strapped to a painful iron chair, to remain unbroken in mind and spirit, inspiring others every single day, for all those decades. We love you Tita Nona. Now you are free. Crispin Segui Tagamolila

Tita Nona, you will always be my inspiration to keep fighting on. Until the next pasyal sa park, lakwatsya and bonding time. I will miss you so much but I know we will meet again.

I will always remember Nona with a soft and smiling face. I am so happy she died peacefully after a long and fruitful career and most of all taking care of her nieces and nephew. Special thanks Nona for all you did for Crispin.
