I've struggled to pick a story to tell, as there are many to choose from. No doubt others have found the same. Gramps (AKA Andy) has regailed us with some legendary accounts, and I've witnessed a few myself. I remember staying at Fort Mistake at the same time as some other guests, an old cricket mate of Pete's and his wife. The atmosphere around the dinner table was fairly sedate, or too sedate for Pete anyway. Conversation turned to nice suburbs in Cape Town, at which time Pete stated emphatically that he could live anywhere in that city except Bergvliet. His mate's wife reacted with shock. As a former resident of Bergvliet she could share much about the areas's qualities including the families who lived there, the parks, the schools and the sports clubs. By the look he shot me, Pete knew full well that his guests had lived in Bergvliet and had loved the place but he proceeded to press on. He just thought that the area was bit rough, thats all. The woman started getting increasingly hot under the collar, speaking at a mile a minute. Pete just quietly sipped his beer, unmoved except for the sideways glance he gave Andy and I with humour in his eyes. His adversary became further unhinged and started to spiral. But Pete had made up his mind about Bergvliet and didn't have anything more to say about the matter. I thought I was going to pee in my pants from laughter. Pete's presence will be missed but I'm sure everyone has many stories to remember him by. Much love to the whole Auld family. Pete Storrar

Dearest Lorna, Georgie, Andy and Cheets, On behalf of Joan, Kath, Derek, Marc and the Rippon family, we are thinking of you on this day, today, as you celebrate Pete/your Dad's beautiful life. He fought bravely till the end and will be sorely missed. I always enjoyed his banter so much as a guest in your house and would always leave, feeling part of your family. This is something very special to me. Praying for you all at this time. Much love, Claire Levin

To The Auld Family It is not difficult to remember my meeting Pete. The first Sunday in February 1973 and we were about to go down the steps on to the top field for my first ever cricket game at Old Johnnies. Even I could count that we were a man short though no one seemed concerned as my query elicited 'Pete will be here'. Then the roar of a battered out old Mini station wagon was heard as it hurtled down from the top gate, screamed around the circle and screeched to a stop in a hitherto unconsidered-parking space between a pole and a long drop down the side of the hill to the cricket ground. The door was thrust open and out rolled a dishevelled Dr Kildare look a like, already in his cricket gear except for the boots being frantically put on as he joined us with 'In the field are we?' And the customary 'No need to warm up a Rolls Royce'! There followed over forty years of friendship with Pete, always entertaining, mostly amusing, invariably intellectually stimulating, at times adversarial, but, just bloody good fun to be with - the memories are too many to mention. Sincere condolences to Lorna and the family
