John Thomas Case died peacefully at Stony Brook University Hospital on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the age of 77 from complications related to a chronic illness. He is survived by his wife, Shelley, of Cutchogue, and his stepdaughters, Tracy Boyd of New York City and Kimberly Boyd of Sound Beach, his brother, George Case (Agnes), Eileen Sibson and Claire O'Brien (Michael), 11 nieces and nephews and 17 grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anne E. Buzzallino and his brother-in-laws, Paul Buzzallino and John Sibson, Sr. John was born in New York City on November 1, 1942 to George Case and Geraldine Navagh Case and was raised in Larchmont, New York. He graduated from Iona Preparatory and attended St. Bonaventure University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After college John went to The United States Navy's Officer's Candidate School in Newport, RI and was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Union (LKA 106) and served two deployments in the Vietnam Theater. John was a kind and thoughtful person who dearly loved his family. John perfectly fit the definition of a total gentleman. Please contact Tracy Boyd ( tracyboyd@yahoo.com ) for additional information. Due to present day circumstances, a service will follow at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Coster-Heppner Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the Cutchogue Fire Department and Stony Brook University Hospital for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to John's church, Our Lady of Ostrabrama, and the Wounded Warrior Project (at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/ ).

Growing up I thought Uncle John was the coolest uncle. He would stay out late and drove awesome cars. He loved each and every one of us in aspecial way. I am sorry dad and I didn't make it to say our goodbyes the other day. I think you hitched a ride with the Blue Angels just passing overhead. We love you and will miss you. -TCK

My earliest memory of Uncle John is when I was a little kid and he used to pick me up and throw me as high as he could in the air. Like every little boy I wanted him to do it over and over again and he did until he got too tired. As a teenager, I used to listen to him and my dad talk about politics and I struggled to understand what it all meant. By their example, I learned what it meant to be a good man and to love my country. Since I was never good at wrapping gifts myself, I always had a special appreciation for his choice of wrapping paper. I can still hear him quoting his favorite line from the honeymooners TV show and to this day when a certain episode comes on I think of him. I have faith that he is in a place where there is no more pain and he is waiting to greet us when our time comes along with all those loved ones who have gone before us.
