I met Jen during our junior year at Cornell, when I started waitressing some evenings at Little Joe's, an Italian eatery in college town. I felt a bit intimidated on my first day, as the restaurant was a loud, bustling place, but that changed quickly when I met Jen, a bubbly, bright eyed brunette with a vibrant smile and deep dimples. Jen had already been working there with a staff of college girls and she was the first to welcome me, as well as to introduce me to everyone and everything I needed to know, including how to balance a tray full of beverages and food platters! We bonded immediately and became great friends in the many years that followed. She was incredibly smart, sociable and gifted, and was always emotionally present as a friend. We would get together for long, lovely dinners when we were living at the same time in NYC, and stayed in touch through letters when she worked in London. Her generous and loving presence clearly left an indelible mark on all whose lives she touched -- I now realize that I felt it when I stumbled upon her old letters while organizing my closet towards the end of last year, without even knowing then that she had recently passed away. While it has been many years since I last saw Jen, I loved seeing her updates on social media and as someone who has a sweet spot for rescue dogs too, I especially loved her posts about fostering dogs, something that she did so lovingly and generously. The Jen I knew was always so self-aware, was not afraid to seek out help and openly talk about her feelings, and for that, I am so proud of her. I am incredibly sad that Jen struggled so much in the recent years that lead up to her passing. I will always hold these special memories of Jen in my heart. RIP my dear friend, Jen.

There are few occasions when you meet a person who strengthens and enlightens the world around her by her presence. When I moved to Austin in 2012 and became sick with a terrible flu, Jen was the only one who volunteered to come to my apartment with home-cooked meals, medicine, and assist in any way she could even though we had just met recently and did not know one another very long at that time. As a newcomer to the city I did not know many people and for someone to extend their hands so warmly made an enormous difference for me. When I needed a guest speaker for a class I was teaching and asked Jen to talk about her work, she did not hesitate to volunteer her time despite it being not convenient with her own work and responsibilities. As so many who were fortunate enough to know her have echoed in different ways, she was one of the kindest and most generous souls you could hope to meet, and an inspiration to the community. It is simply not possible to express the shock and sadness of this news. Jen will always represent the best qualities in a person, and will always inspire me and so many others to try and attain just a small fraction of her ability to make the world better and kinder for all of us. Jen had the sunniest smile and disposition in our class. She was one of the few women who had no inhibitions and engaged with people from all backgrounds and race. And she was the one who always reached out. People like her are rare and she has left a void.

I went to High School with Jen. We reconnected somewhat online. I wish we had reconnected more. There were many days back in High School that Jen helped to make better and brighter for me. She was a wonderful listener, had the best advice, was my confidante and my dear friend. She was just good. I never met anyone with a smile like hers. She was brilliant and when she spoke, people listened. She was my makeup buddy and for a few years we hunted for the perfect red lipstick together. More recently we shared our love for dogs and dog rescue. I will hold her in my heart for always. I will think of how beautiful she was in every way. I love you, Jen. May her memory be a blessing.

I first met Jen in 2005 during a Summer school prep session for UNC Kenan-Flagler business school. We were both there as recovering liberal arts majors with no formal backgrounds to learn the basics. Jen and I hit it off immediately over our mutual lack of business training, dog ownership, and love of food. I'm not entirely sure she expected to end up in technology, but regardless, we both landed the same internship program at IBM in Somers, NY in 2006. During that Summer, many lunches were had to talk about our experiences at IBM: the good, the bad, and the ugly. And after surviving the Summer and a final year at business school, we both found ourselves starting at IBM with real jobs in July of 2007. We never really overlapped at IBM in terms of job roles, but we continued to meet up for lunch to talk about work, dogs, and life in general for a number of years. Unfortunately, we hadn't stayed in touch since leaving IBM at about the same time. I really regret that. I was so saddened to hear about Jen's passing. She was such a great person and a good friend. I know she will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family.

I have been trying to remember the exact moment that Jen and I became friends but I can't place it. But from the time I can remember, I remember Jen as a close friend. It had to be instantaneous. I was a misfit in business school and she embraced me and almost took me under her wing so to speak. She was my first "american" friend and we had nothing in common really. But I looked to her for advice on everything. I still remember when I didn't get that offer from Deloitte and I was super bummed she gave me perspective about consulting and told me how I didn't really want it because her experience was that its a hard life and you don't have time for friends or dating and leaves you lonely. Everything she said resonated and helped me get over that rejection. With her, I ventured outside of Chapel Hill and Franklin st. Her adventurous soul introduced me to random but amazing restos in Durham, Carrboro and Raleigh. I'd cook for her sometimes and she once told me I had burned all her taste buds because my food was so spicy. I know this might sound silly but she introduced me to Facebook and Friendster that was how fresh off the boat I was. We kept in touch after school - she told me how her role was burning her out and how she was really hoping to meet someone and settle down. We met in NYC - she always reached out when she visited and felt like such a social butterfly because she had a gazillion plans every time. The introvert in me, flaked on her a couple of times because I was uncomfortable meeting all the other people she was bringing but looking back I hate that I did that. She was always so quick to connect people - I remember when I started my role at Nielsen in mobile stuff she immediately thought to connect me with someone at IBM doing Mobile stuff, I didn't even need to ask. We started to slowly lose touch in the years to come - I wish, I wish I had been better about keeping in touch. I wish I had made that trip to NC that we planned so many times, I wish I had made it to every single dinner she planned when she visited NYC, I wish we talked more. Jen was such a lovely and vibrant person. She did really save me from myself during some really bad times. She outwardly always seemed so self assured, I aspired to be like her. And those dimples though. I am so lucky to have had a friend like you in my life Jen. I will never forget you. I wish we were better about taking pictures back then.
