She gave birth to four children but mothered many and was aunt to many more. Her contribution will and can never be forgotten.

Hyacinth Mae Knight was a woman of quiet determination and immeasurable grace — a teacher, farmer, administrator, and parliamentarian whose entire life was given over to the people of St Mary parish and the nation of Jamaica. Born around 1940, she carried within her a gentle but unwavering resolve that would define decades of public service and earn her the deep love of a community she called home. Her professional life was a testament to versatility and purpose. Before entering the political arena, Knight worked as a dedicated educator in Jamaica's public school system, instilling knowledge and possibility in the minds of young Jamaicans. She went on to serve as an administrator with JAMAL, bringing the same disciplined care to agricultural management that she brought to the classroom. In time, she also became a farmer and property developer — practical pursuits that kept her rooted in the everyday realities of the people she served. In 1983, Hyacinth Mae Knight was elected to Jamaica's House of Representatives as the Member of Parliament for St Mary Western, a position she held until 1989. Her six years in parliament were marked by her commitment to policy that uplifted ordinary Jamaicans. She also served as a councillor and, later, as Mayor of St Mary, building a record in local governance that extended far beyond any single title or term. But numbers and titles never told the full story of who Hyacinth Knight was. She was a mother to four children and, as those who knew her were quick to say, a mother and aunt to many more. Her magical yet soft smile lit up any room she entered. Her words of counsel quietly changed lives — sometimes in ways she never knew. As a proud and steadfast member of the Jamaica Labour Party, she gave her heart and soul to its ideals and to her beloved country. Hyacinth Mae Knight passed away on September 9, 2026, at Andrews Memorial Hospital in St Andrew, Jamaica, at the age of 86. Her contributions to St Mary parish and to the Jamaican people are, in the truest sense, never to be forgotten.
