On April 26, 2021, Elfriede Johanna Boch passed away peacefully at the age 89 at the Milton Hospital. Elfriede is survived by her two children, Norbert Boch & Thomas Boch. And her four grandchildren: Toby Boch, Tia Boch, Keira Boch and Heidi Boch. Elfriede was also a wonderful sister to her three siblings Luise Euring, Marianne Veitengruber and the late Berthold Heurig who would all laugh for hours whenever they had the opportunity to connect with each other. Elfriede was best known to most of us as Oma for her unending loving role as a Grandmother. Oma was a spirited woman at 5’-1’ who would never shy away from speaking her mind. Those lucky enough to meet her would never forgot her unique charisma and character. From baking Christmas cookies and hiding them from the family so well that, we didn’t get to enjoy them until after the holidays. Not hesitating to let a teenager with low pants know, he should pull up his pants to his waist. Or enlightening Starbucks patrons that they are spending too much time on their computers playing video games. She would be more than happy to share her affectionate thoughts with a guiltless smile. One story that puts a smile on our face was at a family birthday event. At the end of the day, Oma felt inclined to get in the jumping castle with the kids. She was in her early 80’s at the time. Despite warnings against it, she persisted and unfortunately had slipped and fallen inside the castle breaking her ankle. When she went to the hospital, you can imagine the expression of the nurse who asked her “how did this happen?” To which Oma replied, “I was jumping in a jumping castle” and said it like a badge of honor. Elfriede was widowed in 1996 when she lost her husband Herbert Boch to illness. Her love for her husband never diminished in the 26 years that passed and she would speak of him until her final days. Finally, Mom, you and Dad can reunite together. Love, your family.

Elfriede and I shared being Grandmothers to Toby and Tia Boch, and had many a nice time together with tea and cookies or the very good homemade liquer she made! We would go together to their school events. One day at Tobys afternoon school Open House in his grade 2 classroom, his teacher welcomed us and was surprised we came together as his parents were separated and were at work that day. Oma said, of course we come together, we will always be friends!
