Dustin "Dusty" Duane Sorenson, born on June 4, 1972 passed peacefully on April 30, 2020. Dusty had many talents that he shared freely with all of those around him. He was a quick study with technology and often served as our impromptu tech support. He was a fabulous personal connector and energizing entrepreneur, which contributed to his successful career as a computer games executive, manager of musicians and bands, and tech recruiter. He was a great cook, and fond of imparting tips and tricks for scrumptious steaks and grills. He was an adventurer, who wouldn't miss a chance to jump out of a plane, off road on a dirt bike, snowboard in fresh powder, or join a deep-sea fishing expedition. He was intellectually curious, and enjoyed learning about a variety of topics from his days at UCLA throughout his adulthood. A transportation aficionado, he relished rides on his motorcycles and vintage cars around Burbank and his hometown of Coronado, where he also demonstrated his keen knowledge of military aircraft. However, Dusty will be remembered most for his fun-loving, humorous, bighearted nature. He filled the room with his presence, entertaining friends and family with hilarious and often self-deprecating stories of his experiences and occasional misadventures. His gregarious laugh was infectious and people from all walks of life were naturally drawn to him. He never left an event without at least one new buddy. His quick-witted humor always lightened the mood, and many of us regularly recite his brilliant one-liners. As someone who remained in touch with his inner child, he had a knack with kids, who could often be found delightedly climbing, swinging, or jumping off of him. And despite his enormous presence--he spent a lot of time in the gym--he was a softy who liked nothing more than to lavish loved ones with gifts or help a friend in need. He appreciated and admired his family--taking pride in his father's military service, for example, and his mother's wise advice, and above all, finding his most exquisite joy in spending time with his daughter, Brooke, and wife, Heidi. He was indeed a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. These qualities will always inspire us, and his memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Heidi Sorenson; daughter, Brooke Sorenson; mother, Diane Sorenson; father, Duane "Duke" Sorenson; brother, Eric Godtland; as well as a large community of friends and extended family.

it is impossible for me not to think of dusty on june 4th…as birthday twins, i would always look forward to exchanging birthday pleasantries and to see who could say happy birthday first (it was usually me 😆)…i've found myself re-reading our old texts a bunch in recent weeks and it has brought me such joy...since we both have young daughters we would inevitably share pics of our girls and say how rad they are and how proud they make us. below are a few of my fav pics he sent me over the years…brooke, my heart hurts for you and i am so very sorry that you won't have the time with your daddy like the rest of us did. he was such a fun person. happy birthday dusty, i miss you man.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. While I did not know Dusty, my late husband, John Burke, went to high school, and was fast friends, with his brother Eric. I remember John mentioning Dusty's name, and was so shocked when a mutual friend told me of his untimely passing. I send you, your daughter, Eric, and all your family, my deepest condolences, and hold you, and Dusty's memory, up to the light.

I only met Dusty a few times - in moments of great joy like Erin & Eric's wedding. He was always in the center of that joy and seemed to radiate love and good will out toward everyone. In the years that followed, he was like one of those stars whose presence you knew about because of its effect on the bodies around it. On visits to Glen Ellen, I'd know if Dusty had just been there by the smiles on Calia & Ava's faces, the stories they'd excitedly tell, and the contentment flowing from Erin & Eric. To have that kind of love in your life is such a wondrous gift. I hope that holding those memories close to your hearts is a comfort. Sending love to Dusty's family and all of his dear ones

It's been 3 days since I heard the news, and I still have a hard time processing that I will never hear Dusty's laugh again. I met Dusty in high school, where we initially bonded over music, and we remained best of friends ever since. We lived together in San Francisco for a summer, we traveled around Europe together, and over the years we've seen each other in LA, SF, Vegas, DC and Atlanta. We came out for Dusty and Heidi's wedding, and I'm so thankful my wife had the chance to meet him. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that was the last time I'd see him in person. Dusty taught me a lot over the years - from harnessing curiosity into everything out of the ordinary, to having a positive outlook no matter how tough things got. He was generous, loyal and hilarious. But the biggest thing I got from our friendship was always his joy for life. It was impossible to hang out with Dusty and not end up with a smile on your face and in your heart. Some of my east coast friends had the privilege of meeting and getting to know Dusty over the years, and they always referred to him as pure legend. Many of my friends still use terms Dusty originally coined years ago, and to this day my ATM pin is a 4-letter word that Dusty used to jokingly call me. I hope he realized how much joy he brought to others, including those on the other side of the country. Over the years Dusty and I texted and talked every once in a while. I loved hearing how excited he got for the birth of Brooke, and how much he loved being a father. His last text to me shared "Brooke is the coolest kid. Stoked she's here and I'm her pops." I'm so sorry she won't have more time with her dad. The past 72 hours have been tough, but as the tears dry I'm left with a smile on my face and sliver of joy in my heart thinking about all the amazingly good times I've had with him. Rest in peace, Dusty. I look forward to seeing you on the other side.
