Craig A. Reynolds, 80, of Reno, NV, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023 at home, after a battle with pulmonary disease.

“Craig” “Pappy” “Daddy-o” “Uncle Craig” “Bro” “Craiger” “Coach” “Uni”

Craig was a son of the late Walter and Alice (White) Reynolds. He was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High in 1961. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from West Chester College in 1965 , where he was named All-American in soccer, and he captained the soccer and golf teams. At West Chester, he also ran middle distance for track and field He acquired his Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1966.

He was married on March 25, 1967, to the former Jill (Altmeyer) Reynolds. Her death ended their 35-year union. On August 6, 2008, he married the former Roseanne Taylor of Groton Long Pointe, CT. They were married one year until her death in 2009.

Immediately after earning his Master’s degree in 1967, he began his 38-year career with Bucknell University. Craig coached Track & Field from 1968-1970. He also coached Men’s Tennis from 1970-1992, compiling a career record of 168-116-1 and leading the Bison to Patriot League Championship in 1991. His Men’s Soccer tenure was from 1967-1998, compiling a career record of 238-212-36, making him the most successful coach in program history. He led his teams to Conference Championships in 1969 and 1974. Craig’s most memorable victory was defeating Penn State 1-0 in the first round of the 1974 NCAA tournament. He mentored six Hall of Fame players throughout his 32 years and was named Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 1976 and Patriot League Coach of the Year in 1993. Craig retired from coaching in 1998 and transitioned into an administrative role. There, he helped facilitate the athletic department's transition into the new Kenneth Langone Athletics and Recreation Center, which opened in 2002. In 2013, Craig was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Craig organized and hosted a youth soccer camp in the summer at Bucknell for 25 years.

Craig was a very active, fun, and caring person. He loved sports, activities and outings with friends, and his family. He loved planning/organizing family vacations to Block Island, the Outer Banks, and the NCAA Final Four as well as regular golf trips with friends to Hilton Head and the Outer Banks. He enjoyed golf, soccer, tennis, platform tennis, bowling, softball, poker nights, lawn golf, pool, bocce, darts, and fishing. He was a gifted and versatile athlete, known for picking up athletic techniques quickly. Craig was social by nature and was easily able to unite people, young and old, through activities and sports. He would ensure everyone involved was taught the basics so they could participate. He often adapted rules and teams on the fly, so that activities were more enjoyable and inclusive.

He had good taste for music, ranging from Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble’, P!nk, Johnny Mathis, Celine Dione, Dionne Warwick, Yanni, and Andrea Bocelli. He also had a knack for identifying and sharing “feel good” movies. Some of his favorite movies were Big, Close Encounters, Starman, Les Miserables, Top Gun, E.T., and Rocky.

Reynolds Family

Thinking of you, Dad, on the 2nd anniversary of your passing. Last year's family reunion was to Costa Rica, and we had a beautiful celebration of life in your honor - I like to think that you would have loved everything about it! We are in the early stages of planning for next summer. Time sure does fly. Life goes on and we are all busy with "stuff", but I think of you often, I miss your laugh and your presence, and I hope your soul is at peace. Love, TJ

Sending my prayers and thoughts to the Reynolds family. I enjoyed very much playing for Coach from 1991-1994. He was a great mentor to me and will miss him very much.

Coach Reynolds took me under his wing as a young soccer player who was crazy about the sport in the 1970s. He somehow found time to make sure I had access to cleats, a decent ball, amazing soccer camp and exposure to the BU bison soccer team -- even as a 10-yr old ball boy. Coach Reynolds brought these gifts to Lewisburg and shared them with me and a bunch of my friends, who all went off to play in college. Kind, honorable and always a classy gentleman. Tracy, Chad and Vance, I am very sorry for your loss. Your Dad was a wonderful friend and mentor and will continue to hold my thoughts and gratitude.

Tracy, Chad and Vance, I'm very sorry about your Dad's passing. So many of us enjoyed Craig's presence on campus as coach and administrator, dining at the Temperance House, and playing on the golf course. Craig was the coordinator of those golf trips to Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks, and no one could plan and manage the process any better. He loved his family and truly cared about everyone he knew. His subtle sense of humor was priceless! Craig was a good man and a terrific friend who will be missed. May Craig RIP.

It is with a great deal of sorrow that I am writing on Craig’s memorial page. Craig and I were friends since 1968 with both of our families moving to Lewisburg at that time. Our friendship started with both of us sharing car pooling duties for our daughters to dance classes. We became better friends thru tennis, golf, platform tennis, bowling and many trips to OBX AND Myrtle Beach. Craig was the ultimate trip planner as he was responsible for making these trips for many of his friends. Hope and I had the opportunity to accompany Craig, the Doughertys and Hollanders on trips to Block Island. It was such a pleasure to see the loving relationship between Craig, his sisters and brothers-in-laws. We had SO many good times and a few sad occasions with the passing of Jill and Roseanne. Craig was so proud of Monica, Ethan and Sawyer and I am happy that he had the opportunity to be with them. Hope and I send our deepest sympathy to Tracy, Chad, Vance, Monica, Ethan, Sawyer, Joyce, Terry, Judy and Terry. Our lives were better with Craig as a part of them but will never be the same without him. Rest In Peace dear friend.
