My cousin Barb was my first friend. We were the first two grandchildren born to Clarence and Esther Almen. That meant WE (the big kids) were in charge of doling out all the presents at the big family Christmas Eve event. (This was an honor we took very seriously.) As children we had great times pretending and dreaming, while we explored the huge sand pit next to the Blanski home and the stables and fields across the street from my home. Barb's parents treated me like a 4th daughter. I was even included on a trip to Florida the family did when Barb and I were teenagers. This was so exciting, because I had hardly been out of Minneapolis. It was very important to me that Barb be in our wedding. It turned out that we both moved to California in our 20s and we would make the drive between Los Angeles and San Diego to visit each other. As time went on, she left the state and we were not in touch as often. Randy and I are so sorry to hear of Barb's passing. I know her family was extremely important to her and I know she was truly loved. Our hearts go out to all who knew and loved her. There will always be a special place in my heart for my sweet cousin and first friend.

I mostly remember when I was in high school/beginning of college and visiting Barb out in California when she lived in an apartment in Venice. It was so cool. In recent years we shared a love of gardening and quilting and shared tips. My most recent birthday card will always be on my counter as it arrived the day after her passing. She took such good care of our folks being the closest to them and I appreciate all that she did for them. Miss you big sis. RIP and see you when I get there. Love, Janet
