Shmuel and I met in ProVisors probably 7 or 8 years ago. We quickly decided that we needed to have lunch! Of course, we talked about technology, but we spent even more time talking about spirituality, meditation, etc., and he subsequently introduced me to Adyashanti. I remember being in awe that this strong powerful Israeli man, had a such a spiritual dimension to him, that really surprised me at the time, of course in hindsight, having gotten to know Shmuel better, it made total sense. Some of the most fascinating conversations about the ethics of technology, cyber security, data privacy and intellectual property I had with Shmuel. My thinking on these subjects has evolved greatly as a result of these mind and eye-opening conversations with him. Some of the conversations happened over phone calls and coffee and some over a long hike in Novato which I wasn't sure I could complete... and at the IFTBOH group meetings where we continue to tackle these subjects, which he was so passionate about. He dreamed big and thought big and put his ideas into practice. I will miss him dearly and but remember with fondness seeing him at all the various groups we belonged to and having these intellectually stimulating conversations and making plans. I'm glad to see some of what we did together live on as a testament to him.

Avez-vous déjà appris quelque chose sur Shmuel qui vous a surpris(e)?
There were so many things that surprised me about Shmuel - his education in Israel, karate/martial arts, his love for sci-fi audio books, and his passion for dancing. I chose this question because I wanted to share photos of Shmuel, Jessica and Elliot at our wedding in 2018. Such a fun night of dancing and celebrating. They were clearly so happy and so in love. A perfect match.

In the echoes of invention, where brilliance shines, Lived a man of heart and vision, a friend of mine. Shmuel, whose wisdom lit the path so bright, Taught us all how to chase the light. With a mind that built dreams from sparks unseen, And a soul that loved deeply, pure and clean, He balanced technology’s endless race With the gentle love of a warm embrace. Five children called him their guiding star, Jessica held his heart, near or far. He showed us love is the greatest art, A steady hand and a tender heart. He lived life fully, with health and care, Exercising discipline, but chocolate to share. With whiskey in hand, we’d toast and reflect, A bond of respect we’ll never neglect. He took a chance, believed in me, Showed me the person I could be. He lifted my family, gave us grace, Left a mark in my heart time cannot erase. Now, as the world turns and his voice grows still, I carry his lessons, his kindness, his will. For Shmuel, mentor, and friend, Your legacy lives—it will never end. I love you, my friend. -Nathan
