Souvenirs

How beautiful is grief, for we only grieve what we have deeply loved.

Richard Ray Prichard died in an aviation accident on Saturday, October 3, 2026. In keeping with his wishes, no formal services will be held, and this will serve as notice of his passing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Richard was born Saturday, May 23, 1953, in Pocahontas, AR, to the late Bill and Catherine Prichard. He was the fifth of ten children and the first to be born in Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Freida (Jim) Radcliff, and his brother, Stephen (Sandra) Prichard. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Causey Prichard; his proud son, Grant (Claire) Prichard; his brothers, Bill (Debbie), Larry (Jo), Jim, Mike, Charles (Laronda), and Bobby (Cindy) Prichard; and his sister, Mary (Bill) Callahan.

Richard graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in 1971. He enlisted in the U.S. military and was a proud Marine and Vietnam-era veteran. He met his best friend and travel companion, Lisa, in 1977. They spent their years traveling to all 50 states and more than 10 countries. An adventurer at heart, Richard was proud of riding his motorcycle across the U.S., scuba diving in Australia, and always taking the scenic route. He flew his powered paraglider for more than 25 years. He loved baseball, the Eagles band, and his family. He was a loving son, loyal brother, strong husband, and the best dad.

Many people don't know that Richard battled metastatic prostate cancer for over 14 years. Despite harsh treatments, he remained a warrior through and through, refusing to let his diagnosis control him. His most recent adventure was building and learning to fly an Aerolite aircraft. On the night of his death, the wind was right and the sky was clear. Lisa, his ground support for the last 49 years, was with him, and he took off one final time. We take solace in the fact that Richard died doing what he loved, and we hope everyone who knew and loved him will find comfort in that too.

He has moved on to his next adventure, and we will surely miss him.

With love, Grant and Lisa Prichard.

I met Richard early on in my childhood from playing sports and sleep overs with Grant. He coached us and watched us grow and helped us become strong men. One of the most reasonable guys ever because Lord knows we all gave him every reason not to be, but he was always great to all of us. Grant’s was a safe space growing up because Richard and Lisa made it feel that way, and he will be greatly missed. I will keep you all in my heart.

I was so sad to hear of Uncle Richard’s passing. I always looked forward to the stories he would share. He was interested in my Air Force career. He always had a smile on his face. During our visits he always played with Lily and Luke and showed them so much kindness. Uncle Richard was a great man. I’ll miss talking with him and sharing stories. My heart goes out to my Aunt Lisa, Grant, Claire.

Deeply saddened by Richard’s passing. I always looked forward to the stories he would share. He had that smooth, calm Southern way of speaking that put everyone at ease. He was always even-keeled, always positive, and so genuinely kind. What stands out most to me is how playful and warm he was with my three children. They lit up around him, and he treated them with such patience and affection. Grant was clearly his pride and joy, and grew up to be an outstanding man, a testament to Richard’s leadership and wise words. Richard was a great man. I’ll miss his voice, his stories, and the quiet steadiness he brought whenever we were together. My heart is with Lisa, Grant, Claire and the whole family.

Richard was the adventurer of our family. He lived life to the fullest. Richard got me out of my comfort zone and we became Padi certified divers together. We took our private scuba lessons in Poplar Bluff Missouri. These were private lessons because Richard didn't like the public. He was a quiet individual until it came to an adventure or he was fighting for the right thing to do or say. Back to our diving experience Richard and I took our check out dive after training in Current River Doniphan Missouri. It was a beautiful bright warm day. The river was cool. We put our gear on and proceeded to enter the water with our instructor. He took us to a 35 feet deep eddie. On a check out dive all gear had to be removed. We were both anxious and excited. When we got to our destination the first thing Richard did was drop his mask into the eddie. I was the one who had to retrieve it. We went on to complete our check out dive together. We were both proud of our accomplishment. After that we dove mostly in Norfork Lake together. He was my dive partner. We took spear guns with us. One sunny morning we went diving. Richard speared a very large carp which was taking him down deeper. Finally Richard had to cut the string. I went diving many times without Richard as my partner. I attribute my diving experiences to Richard. We lost a great Man and Brother but God gained a soldier. I will miss Richard to the fullest but also find peace knowing that he died as an adventurer doing what he loved. Fly High My Brother.
