I was deeply moved and honored to be part of the memorial service that Rebecca's friends organized in St. Louis on Saturday. Thank you to everyone for sharing thoughts and images to help us remember Rebecca and her remarkable impact on each of us, and so many others.

It was amazing to listen to the eulogies from Rebecca's memorial service. I knew her only from the glorious dinners at Ron and Miriam's and from their stories about her (my favourite one is how Miriam was pushing Rebecca in a stroller, pointed to a dande'lion' and Rebecca roared as a lion in reply). Hearing from Rebecca's friends gave me a new appreciation of the depth of her awesomeness. What a great achievement it is to be loved and admired so much by such excellent people! Bravo, Rebecca. You did life right. I hope that when I am gone I will be remembered with as much love. You will always have mine.

Pasting here the tribute I wrote for the CDH and Princeton. We have been pulling together emails, photos, Twitter, and Facebook posts for the family which we'll format and share. You can look scroll through them here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11sKqeyKIJl-N45yOg79zYR6ehpT7xJH0eQOJgSBD6Cs/edit Rebecca Munson passed away during the morning of August 13 surrounded by family and loved ones. She was 37 years old. She was a beloved friend, colleague, scholar, and mentor. Rebecca joined the Center for Digital Humanities in 2016 as a temporary project manager but her role grew and changed along with the Center. She was promoted to a permanent member of the CDH staff as the Education and Outreach Coordinator and most recently the Assistant Director for Interdisciplinary Education. It is not an exaggeration at all to say that Rebecca represented the best of the CDH. During a global pandemic, Rebecca fought every day to receive the medical care that would keep her alive as long as possible, while also choosing to continue to come to the CDH and to lay the groundwork for a graduate program and advocate for the graduate students she mentored and believed in. She allowed us to share in her vulnerability and courage and taught us, in turn, to be both vulnerable and brave. Her smile, her humor, her wit, her fierce intellect, her capacity for joy, and her generous, generous, generous spirit that never stopped fighting to live and never stopped fighting for what she believed in - we will carry these with us always. All of us welcome your thoughts and memories, pictures, anecdotes, and love in the coming days, weeks, months, and years as we work to reorient in a world without the person who provided so much of our orientation, who knew how to organize us and keep us on track, who saw the outlier questions and helped us find answers. Rebecca was crucial in our efforts to foreground and credit the often invisible labor of organizing and effectively collaborating on our work; the charter program she and Natasha created and the project management skills she developed and implemented are unlike anything else on campus or elsewhere, and we will carry this work forward in her memory. There is no organizing or compartmentalizing a grief that will be stitched into the fabric of our organization. We ask for your grace and understanding as we mourn and celebrate our dear, dear friend. Meredith and everyone at the CDH

Looking back, I realize I have only met Rebecca once. Somehow I feel I know her so well that her untimely passing dealt me an almost visceral blow. Besides the knowledge about her life gained from her mother, my good friend Miriam, throughout the years, reading her blog for the last two years also provided me with a strong sense of intimacy only good writings can bring about. For many years, Miriam and I sang duets together. Once a week, we did our singing at my house. It was at one of these weekly practices, Rebecca stopped by to visit. At the time, I was quite struck by the fact that a child would take such an interest in her mother's life and hobby. Having children of similar age, I was both impressed and envious. I told myself it must be the difference between sons and daughters. Later on, knowing more about Rebecca, I realized it was more than just the gender. It was that special bond in the Munson family. Besides the loving relationship between parents and children, there was also the shared intellectual interests and partnerships. They understand and appreciate each other so well that they form a small world where they enjoy and encourage each other like equals. As a friend and a parent, I ache for Ron and Miriam. If the knowledge that Rebecca, though given so little time in this life, had accomplished, experienced, and participated in life much more than people who had longer time can offer any comfort, I am hoping in this unbearable grieving, there would be moments of peace and glimmers of grace for her parents and loved ones.

We changed the colors of our CDH website and media icons to purple in honor of Rebecca in early August and will keep them purple indefinitely. You can see it here: cdh.princeton.edu
