Maria Ginn

Maria Ginn (née Zicos)December 29, 1951 – September 18, 2024
Maria Ginn, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, at Elena Care in Paleo Faliro, Athens, Greece. She was 72.
Born in Zaire (then the Belgian Congo) on December 29, 1951, Maria spent her early years immersed in the vibrant culture and natural beauty of Central Africa. In her late teens, she relocated to the United States, where she built her life, career and raised her daughter. In 1989, Maria made Athens her home, settling in Paleo Faliro with her daughter Crystal, and remained there for the rest of her life.
Maria was known for her energetic, adventurous spirit—always ready with a laugh that could light up a room and be heard from a mile away. A polyglot and seasoned traveler, she filled her passport with memories from across the globe and her life with dear friends, soulful music, and good food. She had a natural talent for computers and people, combining these gifts into a successful career in information management both in the U.S. and in Greece.
In her later years, Maria deepened her spiritual life, finding profound connection and comfort in her faith. A devoted member of the Greek Orthodox Church, she found solace and joy in prayer and volunteerism, often spotted by the side entrance of Panagitsa, eyes closed, quietly embracing the divine.
She loved documentaries, the arts, her cigarettes and chocolate, a good cup of coffee, and long swims. She especially adored her late dog Minnie and treasured every moment with her grandson, Grayson George William Jeffs. Her face would light up with joy over the simplest pleasures—especially when marzipan made a surprise appearance.
Maria is survived by her loving daughter Crystal Jeffs and cherished grandson Grayson, as well as her beloved sisters: Kiki Zicos, her twin Popi Zicos, Alice Zicos, and Jeannine Karamolegou. She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered by all who were lucky enough to know her.Her funeral service took place on September 23, 2024 at the Palaio Faliro Cemetery, followed by a coffee service filled with her loved ones.~
