He was a star wrestler at Kennedy High School before graduating in 1973. Throughout his life John savored his Irish heritage. He pursued organic farming (with draft horses!), and developed exceptional carpentry and woodworking skills. He enjoyed nature, writing and playing music, good food, drinks with friends, and the good Lord who made it all possible.    He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brothers Daniel J. Fay and Michael W. Fay. He is survived by his ex-wife and mother of his children, Linda Tharp (Lam); their children: Marie Clark of Golden, CO and husband Graham; Benjamin Fay of Golden, CO and wife Sarah; Moza Fay of Castle Rock, CO and wife Lauren; and Emily Fay of Davenport, IA and fiancé Grant; as well as his brother, Timothy Fay of Anamosa, several nieces and nephews, and nine grandchildren.   His Celebration of Life will be Memorial Day, May 27th, from 1-4 pm at the Stone City General Store. We were blessed to have John, Linda and Marie sing at our wedding. Though the wedding video was damaged I still hear them singing Eleazer’s Camel Train.

“What a surprise in Summer 2005 to receive a phone call from Cousin Sean in Trim with exciting news that with him were two descendants of the Fay Family – John and Tim, three generations on from the Fay Brothers who emigrated to America in the mid-1800’s. It was a wonderful discovery as contact was lost all those years since they departed. Sean and I were actively constructing our Fay Family Tree at the time when this particular branch of the Fay Clan pleasantly revealed itself.” From the moment we met John and Tim we instantly felt like Family and we enjoyed every moment we spent together during their stay in Ireland and looked forward to welcoming John and Tim back some day on a return visit. In May 2006, my daughter Connie, our friend Nuala and I had the wonderful pleasure of visiting John and Tim in IOWA. John, Linda and Emily welcomed us warmly into their home during our stay. We felt totally at home and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality and company of John, Family and Tim. John was very kind-hearted, generous of his time and spirit and had a great sense of humour. We exchanged many stories and created many good memories which we fondly recall like our picnic by the Mississippi where John prepared a lovely picnic basket and when he discovered he forgot to pack some cutlery the faithful penknife worked wonders. We also enjoyed a memorable family barbecue where we were introduced to the rest of our American Fay Cousins and our bonfire and pizza night under the stars. Wonderful memories. We were so sorry to hear of Cousin John’s untimely passing but we find comfort knowing John is now peacefully reunited with our Dear Lord and with the loved ones who went before him. Rest in Peace Dear John and our Heartfelt Sympathies to all John’s Family and Friends. Cousin Betty, Connie and dear friend Nuala

I still can’t believe that John is with Jesus now. I’ve got so many unbelievable memories from the Fay family farm. I’ve known John for 37 years. There was a time many years ago when I spent about eight weeks at the Fay farm helping John and Linda milk the cows. I did it just to be able to have that fellowship around Jesus with them. It was an amazing time in my life. John was a joy and a pleasure to be around. When he pulled out his guitar and got in the Holy Spirit while he was singing, there was no musician I’ve ever heard of that touched me so deeply. We would wrestle all the time in the house until the point where our necks were sore and our arms were hurting lol. Like two bulls in the field butting horns…lol Sometimes I would come out there in the middle of the night. I knew the door was always open and they always welcomed me in. I would lay down on the couch and go to sleep and in the morning at about 5 o’clock John would get up for his coffee, and he would never be startled there and say he would come over give me a handshake, and click his fingers when he shook my hand. He would sit down and we would talk for about an hour before he got ready to go out and the cows. So many stories I could tell but the one I want to say is Jon’s love for Jesus was infectious. He was very peaceful and always was ready to provide food drink, and fellowship anytime day or night. I loved John so much and I’m gonna miss him. I know I’ll see John again in the kingdom of heaven. That’s the hope we have in Jesus… I just wanted to say to all the Fay children. I’m praying for you. I’m here if you ever need to talk. Love you
