Always humble and kind, our Dad made friends wherever he went
**Obituary for William "Bill" Koester** William "Bill" Koester, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend, passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on November 22, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, he dedicated his life to fostering connections with those around him and embracing the beauty of every moment.
Bill graduated from Marquette University's School of Engineering in 1961 where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Carolyn. He devoted much of his professional career working at Service Painting Corporation. He eventually realized his entrepreneurial dream by opening his own branch of the business in Raleigh, North Carolina. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his family. He was a devoted father to his children, Pam, John, and Joe Koester, and grandchildren Will, Owen, Bryce, Alex, Madeleine, Scout, Finn, and Griffin and great granddaughter Covey cherishing the time spent with them, embodying what it meant to live a life filled with love and laughter.
Throughout his life, Bill exemplified kindness and curiosity, traits that left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He approached life with a positive attitude, greeting each day with an infectious smile and a generosity of spirit. Whether sharing a laugh with a friend or enjoying the simple pleasures of life, Bill's warmth and humor endeared him to many. He firmly believed that everyone was just a friend he had not yet met.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Bill had a love for music, often captivating friends with his singing and guitar playing. He loved to sing songs ranging from Frank Sinatra to Bob Dillon and especially enjoyed playing around the campfire with friends and family. One of his most memorable "gigs" was playing at his daughter Pam's wedding with his life-long friend Paul Davis. Bill also embraced various interests such as gardening, painting, sailing, woodworking, baking, reading and birdwatching. He was a runner in his early adulthood which later transitioned into a love for playing golf, all while nurturing a passion for travel and family gatherings.
Bill is preceded in death by his mother and father, Wilbur and Althea Koester as well as his beloved wife Carolyn and his sister Cathy. All of whose memories he treasured. He leaves behind his older brother, Fred Koester, as well as his children, Pam, John (Johanna) and Joe (Britt), who, along with his grandchildren, carry forward his legacy of kindness
Bill will forever be remembered as a remarkable man who lived fully and loved deeply. In this time of grief, we find comfort in the memories of Bill's unwavering spirit and the countless lives he touched throughout his journey. May he rest in peace, forever remembered as the kind and curious soul we were all fortunate to know.
