"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

In Loving Memory of Peter Michael On

May 3, 1976 – August 23, 2024

Peter Michael On, born on May 3rd, 1976, was an adventurer in every sense of the word. He lived by the phrase "carpe diem," always embracing life’s moments with passion and enthusiasm. Pete’s love for the outdoors was infectious - surfing, canyoneering, skiing, volleyball, soccer, and golfing were just a few of the activities that filled his active life. But more than his adventures, it was his love for family and friends that defined him. Pete cherished his relationships, always putting those he cared about first.

On Friday, August 23rd, Pete’s life was tragically cut short in a way that was quintessentially him - brave and selfless. While on a canyoneering trip at the Seven Teacups in California, Pete and his group faced a challenging situation on their last rappel. When a female group member, Jeannine Elaina Skinner, got caught in a whirlpool, Pete didn’t hesitate to jump in after her in an attempt to save her life. In the end, Pete, Jeannine, and David Bell, who also jumped in to help, tragically lost their lives. Pete died as he lived - protecting and caring for others.

As the scripture reminds us in John 15:13, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." While we are heartbroken by his sudden passing, we find comfort in knowing Pete’s final act was one of love.

Pete is survived by his loving parents, Pamella and Philip, his brothers Bruce and Sherman, his sister Kauti, his sisters-in-law Noelle and Melody, his brother-in-law Joshua, and twelve nieces and nephews who adored their "Uncle Pete"—Bryson, Luke, Makenna, Isaac, Ryan, Mason, Gavin, Jayden, Miah, Caleb, Lorelei, and Peter-Owen.

Pete will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his sense of adventure, his free-spirited nature, and his unwavering commitment to those he loved will live on in our hearts forever.
