I was president of the students union of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko Ondo state , almost same time he was pro chancellor of the institution , I remember his uncommon commitment to the development of anything Ondo, he was passionate to see the children of the underprivileged succeeds, he approved almost all my requests provided is meant for the progress of the institution, at a time the university authority thought he was indulging us too much. Oloye as he was foundly called said we just have to indulge them. He has an uncommon gift for conflict management, he was kind but firm on principle, he was a man of many gift and talent, an economics of immeasurable value, he was a gift to humanity. His death has left a huge vacuum among his people in Ondo state and Nigeria in general . I pray may the good Lord continue to be with his family. Baba was such a wonderful soul. Continue to rest in peace Oloye Bisi Ogunjobi. Signed… Mayowa Adebiyi Former President Students Union AAUA.

The news of Mr Ogunjobi’s passing brought back memories of a dedicated professional and leader who understood the business of the African Development Bank and worked tirelessly to build the institution. He had been in the Bank long before I got there, and was away at the time I joined in 1996, but I heard about him from others who had worked with him. He took time off to get his master’s degree when the Bank’s new leadership adopted that as a requirement for its managers. He came back to be Director, Country Operations, and a few years later Vice-President, Operations - a leader in implementing the professionalization and governance reform agenda. Watching and listening to him at work, you could not help noticing the confident authority with which he led. I did not often interact with him in the workplace, but on the occasions over the years in and outside the Bank when we did meet, he came across as someone who wore his knowledge and power lightly and who took a personal interest in his junior colleagues and subordinates. Humility and humanity are the words that come to mind from my conversations with him. Although he did not, ultimately, succeed in his bid to be elected President of the ADB in 2005, Mr. Ogunjobi’s contribution to the Bank is something that those who mourn his passing, and the generations of ADB personnel who did not have the opportunity to see him at work should know about. May he rest in peace.

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of VP Ogunjobi. I thought I’d share this unique story that illustrates what he once told me “never stay down when you fall”. I had the privilege to work alongside VP Ogunjobi when he was Director for the Country Program Department, North Region at AfDB. I was working as the Personal Assistant to Vice-President, Administration and that chair was temporarily held by the newly-appointed substantive Vice-President for Operations, North Region, the late Madam Abu Affan. During that period – 1994-1995, I observed the already well-established and much respected Director develop a winning working relationship with his new boss, the first female Vice-President at AfDB. I admired his humility, his sense of purpose and his focus on achieving established goals. I was truly struck by his personal character, and his drive to set high expectations but mostly his ability to address and overcome adversities. After the restructuring of the AfDB in late 1995, Mr. Ogunjobi lost his position of Director, not for lack of performance but because his academic credentials did not include a master’s degree, which was introduced as a sine qua non condition for any managerial position at AfDB. The late Mr. Ogunjobi accepted a position of Advisor, and challenged himself with securing the required academic credentials. He therefore, despite his age and seasoned career, took a sabbatical leave to attend a credible university in the UK to obtain a master’s degree. Upon his return he more than met the new requirements and was soon re-appointed to the position of Director and within a few years, Vice-President. Such a triumph! He went on to add a doctoral degree to his academic credentials. Quite an INSPIRING STORY ! May He Rest in Peace. Jean-Paul Ehounou Formerly Director (retired) at AfDB

Chief (Dr) Bisi Ogunjobi exited the Bank as its VP before I assumed duties in the Bank. Our path crossed in a conference in Transcorp Hilton Abuja about nine years, and he embraced me warmly like his own. Since that day, we maintained excellent relationship. I was in his house in Lagos twice at his invitation and participated in his books launch. He called and spoke with me while in London (for the last time!) and expressed great excitement and encouragement at the launch of my business and opening of my new office in Abuja. He promised to visit me in the new office 'straight from the airport' in his next visit to Abuja. I never knew that he called and spoke with me for the very last time. I never knew he would never visit me in my new office straight from the airport. His words were very inspiring and encouraging, leaving no suspicion that they were last words. We shared a common philosophy that one's development impact and love for humanity should be life-long, and should not terminate at retirement from a formal organization. With rare humility, he contributed his quota to inclusive development and egalitarian society till he beath his last. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant his family and other loved ones the fortitude to carry on his great legacy. He lived a high positively impactful life and invested generously in humanity. He left a positive imprints on the sand of time. He shall be surely missed. Chief Bisi Ogunjobi for ever he lives in the heart of humanity. Continue to rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

John Mensah-Quainoo It was with a very sad and heavy heart that my wife, Mary, and I received news of the passing away of VP Olabisi Ogunjobi. Bisi, as we knew him was not only a colleague, he was also a friend. He was a leader, a trail blazer, and a pioneer. In 1983 when the then President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Mr. Willa Mung’Omba commissioned him to set up and manage the first Southern Africa Regional Office of the AfDB in Harare, Zimbabwe, Bisi selected five of us to man the office with him. In its operations, the Harare Office filled in all the gaps in the Bank’s operational activities that Headquarters, Abidjan, was too far away geographically to execute. The Office co-ordinated seamlessly all the Bank’s operational activities in Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Under Bisi’s leadership the AfDB Harare Office became one of the most efficiently run and the most productive of the Bank’s Field Offices during the period 1984 to 1989, even though this may not have been fully recognized. Bisi was a very pleasant man with whom to work, who especially appreciated commitment to the task. He was good at delegating operational responsibilities. Once he insisted, I should accompany him to the Budget hearing of the Zimbabwe Government Budget to obtain first-hand information on the Budget and summarize it for Headquarters. On another occasion I benefitted when he sent me to represent him and the President of the Bank at the Botswana Government’s Official Opening of the Serowe–Orapa Road which had just been financed by the Bank. Upon returning to AfDB Headquarters, Abidjan, Bisi rose to become Director, Country Operations Department North, and the Department of Operations, Policy and Review, and Vice President of Operations, but it was during his time as Resident Representative, AfDB Southern Africa Regional Office, that I worked most closely with him and fondly remember him. May he rest in God’s perfect peace.
