Mardy Lippke

December 11th, 1962 - August 17th, 2020

Lie with me and forget the world.

Biography

Mardy Lippke

Vibrant | Young | Compassionate

Mardy was an amazing human, wife, mom, sister, aunt, and friend. She was always there when you needed her going above and beyond to help and care for others. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. She passed away peacefully in her sleep early Monday morning, August 17, 2020.

She is survived by her loving husband Eric, two sons, Aaron & Alex, daughter-in-law Namyoung, granddaughter Yuna, sister Peg, niece Kelly, dog Skye, and cat Karma, and countless other family and friends.

She was born in Bozeman, Montana but spent most of her life in Washington State with the last seven years spent in Edmonds. She loved walks on the beach and around her neighborhood, spending time with her family and playing with her granddaughter, Yuna.

She enjoyed playing tennis, reading, doing crosswords, gardening, and playing all kinds of card and casual games. She was a vegan and firmly believed in that lifestyle. If she had ever wanted to write her own vegan cookbook, she had the talent to do so. She was also an avid recycler, animal lover, and promoter of equality. She wanted to help make the world a better place to live for all humans, animals, and future generations.

While the suddenness and unexpectedness of her passing has been extremely challenging, the hardest part is the loss of warmth and compassion that she carried with her everywhere she went.

I was so very sad to have heard about her passing. She was always so full of life and love. I told her many times that she was a ray of sunshine. My heart aches for her family. It is so difficult to have a loved one pass so suddenly and at such a young age. God bless you all as you journey through your grief. I see that her birthday is coming up, and of course the holidays. As a teammate, co-captain, and amazing friend, Mardy's spirit was contagious. In matches, in the bubble, on the "4th court" sidelines, and at the after party, win or lose- she always had a smile and some wise words to share. You could not know Mardy without knowing her strong love for her family and her dog Skye. Mardy was was truly authentic. The Mardy we all knew was the real Mardy, and she will be missed immensely. We are all heartbroken. XO~

It has been my honor and privilege to know Mardy. She was one of the people you could count on for a smile, warmth, radiance, and good—in all actions and all conversation. A woman worthy of love and respect and who gave the same. I am heartbroken for her and for her family members (and for all of us) that she didn't get more time. RIP dearest Mardy. “You did good” here.

We shall MISS Mardy at Harbor Square tennis. I will forever remember her appropriating "12th Man" from her soccer love to her tennis love and leading that 12th Woman spirit in the lobby at so many of our tennis matches. Her enthusiasm, support, just plain "I care about you ALL" remains in my heart as a delight and blessing.

Dear Eric:

I was there for the memorial service for Mardy yesterday. How wonderful that during these hard pandemic times you were able to find a way to share it with all of us who would want to be there. It was so beautiful and such a perfect tribute to a loving spouse, friend, mother. My heart breaks for you and your family. Oh, and watching Yuna wipe the tears from her Daddy’s eyes brought me to my knees. I felt Mardy was there too, and I can’t imagine anyone feeling more fulfilled in her life’s purpose while hearing the wonderful stories you all told - touching family and friends. There was such an outpouring of love feelings. What more is there? I know you will all miss her so much. I feel a hole in my heart and in my life that I didn’t get to have her special presence in my life. Part of that will always be a sad mystery to me. I did learn something from the wonderful and funny Mardy stories that inspired me and I hope to
put into practice from now until the day I, too, die. Thank you, Marty!!! (was told never to use more than one !, but Mardy would understand!!!) I’m sorry we could not have shared more !!!s

Over the years, I have been lucky to spend time with Mardy at dinner a few times. I feel like I know her so much more though because of Eric. He spoke of Mardy and his family so often and with such affection. The walls of his office have always had wonderful pics of vacations and adventures. The times I did see Mary, I will always remember her kindness, her warmth and her beautiful smile.

My fondest memory of Mardy was a dinner where we spent some time talking about raising boys. My son was very small at the time, and a handful. Mardy talked with me about the joy of raising her boys. How she loved their energy and their spirit and she reminded me that there are so many phases to children and she loved every one of them. I remember feeling calmed by her words and I never forgot them. I also knew how much she loved her children and her family.

I am sending all of the Lippke family love and peace right now. I am so sorry for your loss. Mardy was an extraordinary person and it's so clear to me she was deeply loved by you all.

I met Mardy many years ago when her oldest and my youngest were in pre school together. We were in a small book club together, reading “ Women Who Run With The Wolves.” How appropriate. She was fierce, loving and devoted to her “pack” and to her friends as well.
Mardy and I shared the same birth date, although I am much older. Many years ago our husbands along with the two of us began the birthday tradition of going out to dinner in celebration.
When the pandemic struck, we checked in with each other every week to make sure everyone in our families were doing ok. This was her idea.
I will miss her quick laughter. Her big smile. Her compassion and open mindedness. Our lunches, our shopping trips to Home Goods. Her friendship. So much more. The world is missing a bright light. I will always keep that light tucked close to my heart.

I think Mardy was the first mom of a student (Aaron) who befriended me. It is no surprise donations are welcome at BLM, because she carried with her an aura of social justice before any of us out here in Happy Valley Woodinville even knew what that was. Mardy was THE coolest PTA mom and classroom parent volunteer, and the first woman I knew with a tattoo, haha. I always wanted to get good enough at tennis to play her. That she and Eric had my husband and I to their home and even invited us to the sacred rite of Pumpkin Launching is a testament to her warm and welcoming ways. I will always remember her fondly — her smile, her laughter, her wisdom, her love.

I met Mardy when I joined a new tennis team last year. She was one of our co-captains. She was always so kind, sincere and so much fun to be around. She had a great sense of humor. I loved how she totally got my husband’s dry and witty Instagram posts, not very many people did. I loved chatting with her. We shared many conversations about taking care of the environment (in her honor, I will go ahead and get that Ridwell box she told me to get), food and eating healthy, movie and music recommendations, and our shared love of our parti-poodle
puppies. Mardy was awesome! I am going to miss her so much.

28 years ago a bright souled redhead, pushing a stroller entered our families lives. The baby was Alex and he and Cacia clicked immediately as did Mardy and I. Soon to follow in the connections were Garrett and Aaron, and then Tony and Eric. Mardy had a way with initiating connections. She became one of the few people who ever “got me” and loved me warts and all. She also became the other mother in my children’s lives.
My dear girlfriend I don’t know the place to begin to say goodbye, but I do know that in spite of the fact you’ve changed your phone number, I will be able to dial in to all of the deep conversations, the memories that came with laughter, tears, adventures, crisis, celebrations, tasks and the love between our families. It was a gift you gave us that can never be lost.
My friend. My voice of reason. My partner in crime. My soulmate. My parenting partner. My family counseling codependent.
We are privileged to share the memories of the days we Christmas caroled, trick or drinking as we chaperoned our costumed kids, shoo’ed mother bears with cubs from camp, celebrated each birthday, graduation, marriage, and sorrow. The knowing smiles we shared as husbands solved the world’s problems and we knew it was partly because of our own qualities that they could.
The infectious laughter, your ability to SEE and anticipate what was needed and when, gave comfort when people couldn’t verbalize of their own is a quality I aspire to. Hugs, warm hands and calling me on my bullshit gave me security because you were ALWAYS honest. I am blessed to have had such a great compliment to my self.
There’s a hole that can only be filled as we cherish the gifts of days gone by.
The memories flood me.
Thank you my dear friend and I hope that as time continues to pass I can give to yours some of the treasures you gave to mine. As the family saying goes, “It’s been a hell of a ride!” Bless you in your journey and watch over us in ours.
My dear friend.

I remember that we spent so much time laughing that night, that my cheeks literally hurt the next day. I’ll also never forget her hosting a party and going into labor about 30 years ago. She insisted on continuing the party and would go to the hospital once the party was over! I will miss her fun spirit and her laugh. Sending big hugs to Eric, Aaron & Alex, and all of the Lippke’s. ♥️ You are all in my thoughts & prayers. Please know we are happy to help in any way.

This is a tremendous loss. I'm so sorry Eric, Aaron and Alex and all extended family. While you feel the grief most intensely, everyone who's Mardy's life touched, grieves. Mardy had such a good heart. For me, as her neighbor, it started simply saying hello when we walked dogs. Hello graduated into warm exchanges that blossomed into someone I looked forward to seeing daily. Always with a smile, a funny story, and sometimes a wild laugh. I am blessed to have known her. The universe really lost a special woman.

We are so sorry for your loss. Mardy had such a full life and she enriched the lives of many people. To me she was the enthusiastic school volunteer and friend. She devoted so much time and energy to supporting the schools that her boys attended. Always ready with a positive attitude and quick laugh to make even the most mundane tasks fun. This picture was taken at the Wellington Auction. After working months to prepare for the event and working the entire night, she still made it look like she was just there for a fun night out! I will miss her sense of humor and hearing stories about her family. She loved you all so much.

I'll always remember Mardy as the cute little red-haired girl that lived around the block from us in Bozeman. She and my little sister Chris, were 2 peas in a pod. They spent tons of time together and had their own language, vocabulary and jokes that would send them both into hysterics over and over. They loved to laugh (and that never changed.)

As her babysitter, I made it to her favorites list by playing hide and seek with her, and by letting our games and fun take precedence over strict bedtimes. She was always ready for more fun.

Long after we all grew up. Mardy had been in touch with Chris when my husband had a serious illness and died. Chris called me one day and told me that Mardy had come up with a plan to fly Chris and me to Edmonds for a little vacation at her beautiful water-front home. Just that.. and would I like to go? Of course I leaped at the opportunity!

While there, she and Eric treated us to major league baseball, a Sounders game, walks on the beach, cozy chats and delicious home cooked family meals. It was food for the soul, and for me in my grief, a reminder that there is incredible kindness in this world and lots of fun to be had. I will always be grateful to Mardy and Eric for their thoughtfulness and generosity.

Mardy was full of grace; so easy to be with, a good listener and full of good stories. She was genuine, giving and dearly loved her family. I will miss her and am so glad to have had her in my family circle. She will be missed and never forgotten.

Eric – I remember a get together we had in your backyard years ago when you lived in Woodinville. Someone who didn’t know you well asked Mardy: “What’s Eric *really* like. He can’t be as nice as he seems, can he?”. Mardy answered: “He is! What you see is what you get – I've known Eric forever, and that’s who Eric is!” The same could be said for both of you. Mardy was so warm and welcoming, so sincere and caring. I loved spending time with both of you when you'd have your work parties – in Woodinville, in Edmunds – even when Mardy came to Salzburg on one of our trips and we spent the weekend hanging out together. Mardy, you left us too soon, but the aura you shined on us all will never be forgotten. I remember the bicycle parades down 202nd Street, the Christmas Carols around the neighborhood. Your laughter and logic at every Wellington PTA meeting (celebrating at McCorry's after the meetings). Time with you always left me feeling joyful and hopeful. Even in death, it marches on with causes close to you. Your family was blessed to spend time with you on earth, and we, the lucky ones, were grateful if we were part of your gang. Before Columbus, they thought the world was flat till he went over the edge - feel free to reach out to me.
