9 de mayo de 1994 - 2 de agosto de 2023
Felipe De Jesus Marquez Lexow was born on May 9th, 1994 to Felipe Marquez and Jane Lexow in Santa Fe, NM. Felipe was a loving brother to four younger siblings, Seneca, Barbarita, Stephany, and Sebastian. He came from a big family with many aunts, uncles, and cousins, which he was deeply proud of. Felipe grew up in Oregon, where he graduated from The Dalles Wahtonka High School in 2013. Following graduation, Felipe served in the United States Army as an infantryman, where he was stationed at Vilseck, Germany, then Fort Lewis, Washington. After leaving the Army, Felipe moved back to New Mexico. He took classes at Santa Fe Community College then, most recently, was working as a plumbing apprentice with the UA 412, where earned his gas and plumbing licenses, as well as his brazing certificate. Felipe loved to spend his free time outdoors biking, camping, and hiking. He was most known for his adventurous spirit and caring heart. More than anything, Felipe loved his friends and family. He will be remembered for his random acts of kindness, contagious laugh, and warm hugs. The best way to honor Felipe is to be kind, loyal, and loving in the ways he was.”

Aunt Kate

Felipe I had to drive out to Dufur and 8 mile, today. I needed to hear Felipe’s wonderful goofy laugh and his voice saying, “Hi Kate.” I wanted to feel his hug. Felipe gave the best hugs. He enveloped you with his openness. I remembered how he’d charcoal his hotdogs and marshmallows over the fire. Man, did he love fires! I can hear his 5 year-old squeaky voice saying he wanted to be a “farderfider” (fire fighter) when he grew up. I can see Felipe riding his bike, flailing his skinny 7 year-old legs just praying his little feet wouldn’t slide off his pedals and he didn’t Jack knife. He wore socks with his sandals just like his grandpa. If he wiped out, Felipe would jump up and say, “I’m ok! I’m ok!” even thru tears. His mom had told him if he got hurt, he couldn’t do it, again. His pain she felt deeply. Felipe was always first one up at the butt crack of dawn just waiting for next person up to tell about dream, how fast he could go on motorcycle with Uncle Mike, the new trick he could do or what he’d created with his imagination. We’d sit sleepy eyed and barely awake brain as he’d happily chatter away. He called all his cousins Cousin. “Hi Cousin” he’d say when he’d run up in excitement at family gatherings. We teased that he’d be a good host or waiter at our local Cousin’s restaurant. They always greet with a “Howdy cousin.” Oh how Felipe’s deep voice he returned from his papa’s with at 12 years-old made “Hi Kate” ring in my body like a chant of “Om” Sitting at our old campsite, I got to go back in my mind to when we hiked the deadfall at 8 mile with 16 year-old Felipe and his buddies in hopes of catching glimpse of Bigfoot. It was so much fun jumping from fallen trees, balancing on the long trunks as we used them as bridges, listening to the banter and laughter of those teenage boys. They were so loud there was no way a Bigfoot or any wild life would come out of hiding. Later that night, I’d see the boys thru the trees, their shadows dancing with playfulness around their fire as they talked, laughed and wrestled. Felipe sharing his Lexow family with his circle of “brothers” while claiming his independence camping in his own spot. Felipe exposed his love and tenderness with his girlfriend Maddie as she came out to camp, too. He loved deeply and felt for each of us sincerely. Felipe’s boyhood lankiness had turned to muscles and presence upon his return from Army bootcamp at 19. He was a protector before, but, he seemed even more so. Felipe always went out of his way to show he loved. He was inclusive to any age and you knew it. At least, I knew it and witnessed his kindness and compassion. Time slipped away quickly with his adult freedom and our small family moving away. Years seemed to disappear with contact rare and far between. A surprise Christmas visit, a text or call seemed to barely fill the gap. I treasure the years of simple love in what seemed the day to day life that Felipe shared with me in his childhood. I relish each savory memory.

At family gatherings at g-ma and g-pa lexow’s house the cousins had a special tradition. The older cousins would take the younger cousins to the gazebo for a walk and a game of tag. We would do this at least a couple times a year. Felipe and Seneca were the first cousins my sisters and I got to be the “big cousins” for and we absolutely adored them. After Felipe left for the army it took a couple years for us to finally get leave at the same time. I remember being shocked that he towered over me. I had forgotten he wasn’t little any more. Despite growing up we all still went to the gazebo together. There he challenged me to all kinds of military fitness challenges cause when we were younger we would do tree climbing contests and races. I had been the bigger cousin so he was used to me winning. Now that we were grown he was winning all the challenges. I remember him just looking at me in surprise when I couldn’t do as many pull-ups. He said “I thought you were strong!” It was that silly moment when my little cousin finally realized he was bigger and stronger than me. It just keeps replaying in my head cause it was one of the last times we really got to do anything like that.

Felipe’s smile and goofy laugh will live in our lives forever. My kids adored Felipe, he was our family. The fun days, hilarious nights, and mornings will live in our hearts. Felipe, we can’t imagine you will not be walking through our front door, loving on our dogs, and giving us big hugs anymore. Thank you for being a part of our lives, a part of our family. ♥️

Felipe came into my life at the age of 5yrs old. His Uncle Mike would bring him along to play with my son Alex. They became lifelong bestfriends. Felipe became one of my sons. There is quite a posse of “other sons” as I call them. Felipe was the first in the special group of other sons. He is deeply loved by me and so many. I will miss him very much. I will always cherish his unabashed, spontaneous, boisterous nature. His deep emotions of love, friendship and family. His absolute goodness to the depths of his soul. I love always and forever my other son. I will hear your laughter ringing in my ears forever All my love, Your Other Mama Tina
