Afra C. Collier

Afra C. Collier, resident of Mathias, WV, was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1930. She grew up in Cambridge, became an artist and painted in the US, Mexico, Italy and Ireland. Her main mediums being in watercolor and oil. She was fond of plain air, rather than studio painting. She was also a homemaker and talented cook, with an interest in many different cuisines and had a vast cookbook collection. She was good with people, and enjoyed hearing their stores and learning from their experiences and was an excellent storyteller. She had a curiosity about life that led her and her husband and daughter into many exciting adventure - hiking the Appalachian Trail, exploring pyramids in Mexico, spelunking, and other activities that guaranteed a life around Afra which would never be boring. She had an infectious smile and a buoyant sense of humor. Afra is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, a daughter and brother and was treasured by a large number of friends from the Twelve Step Group that she was a member of for over forty-five years.
