Grief may be joy misunderstood

Douglas Bryan Bliss, 63, of Tekamah, Nebraska, passed away on June 23, 2025, in Blair, Nebraska. A beloved son, father, partner, grandfather, brother, and friend, Doug’s life was marked by quiet strength, generosity, and a deep love for his family and community.

Born on December 4, 1961, in Oakland, Nebraska, Doug was raised in Tekamah, where he developed the values of hard work, humility, and compassion that guided him throughout his life. He spent many years working in the car business, where his dedication, integrity, and personable nature earned him lasting relationships and the respect of all who knew him.

Doug found joy in the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He loved boating, hunting, fishing, cooking, and relaxing with a good Western on TV. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family, sharing laughs, telling stories, and making memories that will live on.

He is survived by his devoted partner, Tonya O'Dell; his children: Emily (Bliss) Ellis and her husband Bill; Dylan Bliss and his wife Sydney; and Allyson Bliss and her husband Zach Schiermann. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Heather Schnoor and Harley Davis, an abundance of nieces and nephews, as well as his loving mom who raised him, Peggy Bliss.

Doug was a proud grandfather to Harley Schnoor, Charley Davis, Genesys Ellis, Jupiter Bliss, and James Bliss. His grandchildren were a great source of joy, and he treasured every moment he got to see them.

Through every stage of life, they remained a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering love. The closeness they shared was a cornerstone of Doug’s life and a testament to the deep familial ties that helped shape the man he was.
