Memorial

Mementos

Beloved son, brother, teacher and friend Adam Leitel has unfortunately passed away at the age of 41.

Adam was like no one else on Earth. His passion for life and his effortless sense of humor will be truly missed. A coach and teacher at Free State High, he reached countless students there and at the other schools where he taught.

He was an avid sports fan and statistician. His love of the Chiefs, the Jayhawks, the Royals and the Lakers was known throughout the land.

One of the nicest and funniest people to ever live, the world just won't be the same without him. He was gifted with a huge heart. We were all lucky to have known him.

He's survived by his mother Ruth, his father John, his sisters Ann and Mary, his brother Micah and his brother-in law Colin.

We love you, Adam.

Mr. Leitel was an amazing history teacher, who I was lucky enough to take a few classes from in my short time at FSHS. He was an excellent mentor, and has helped me even beyond my time in high school by acting as a reference, and encouraging advisor as I pursue my own studies in history. His calm and relaxed demeanor made class enjoyable, even when my fellow students and I pulled shenanigans. He will be greatly missed, and my thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and past and present students.

I only had Mr. Leitel for one year but each day in his class was an absolute joy. He was always willing to extend dates and let me stay after class to talk about weird facts, stories, assignments, etc. It was always a good day when we’d come into class and he’d turn on the TV to start teaching as some sports podcast/radio would resume playing. I learned so much from him and just wish I could’ve had another fun chat with him. All of us students will miss him.

2012 Ricco’s crew pic. Devastated and in shock when I heard the news. He was one of a kind and will be missed. I’m he’s reunited with his Chuck up there.

Dear Leitel family, I’m so sorry to hear about Adam. I have so many fond memories of him and you all growing up. I even have a little scar in my head from a water fight
