Steven Kenneth Smith

Steven Kenneth Smith, 71, passed away on July 19, 2026, in Carmichael, California surrounded by family.

Born on April 16, 1955, Steven lived a life marked by creativity, humor, and a passion for technology. Steven began his career in retail management at Wherehouse Records in Orange, Ca.  He later transitioned to a successful career in IT, teaching himself website design and management before the internet was mainstream. His innovative spirit and dedication left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.A man of many interests, Steven was an avid ham radio operator with the call sign K6BZ—a hobby introduced to him by his father-in-law, Gordon Deppe. In March of this year, he earned his FAA Remote Pilot License and found joy in operating his drones. His enthusiasm for learning and exploring new technologies was a hallmark of his character.  He and his wife Carolyn were avid cruisers and went on too many cruises to count, and celebrated their 49th anniversary this year on a cruise. He also loved hosting 4th of July parties at Club Esteban. Steven is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn; daughters Alison Baum and Madeline Smith; siblings Denise Lemoine, Regina Drenik, Carolyn P. Smith, and Lyle Smith. He was predeceased by his parents, Dolores P. Smith and Kenneth Smith.A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In honor of Steven’s memory and his courageous battle with cancer, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.Steven’s creativity and sense of humor brought light to those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
