Robert Sanchez

August 3rd, 1986 - January 31st, 2025
Robert Anthony Sanchez, 38, passed away Friday January 31, 2025 in Fairfield, California. Born August 3, 1986 in Vallejo, Robert was the youngest of three children.
Diagnosed with severe autism and pervasive developmental delay in the 1980s, he lived a joyful, simple, and socially active life with his family and the Filipino American Community.
Though largely non-verbal, Robert always found ways to communicate what mattered to him - from choosing his designated seat in every car he rode in (always the rear right) to what he wanted to order in restaurants (most likely soup, nachos, chicken strips, or pasta). He found great joy in daily rituals: walks at the mall or in Lawler Ranch, faithfully recording upcoming events (Fil-Am meetings and holiday parties) on his wall calendar, and taking his afternoon nap to the sound of The Price is Right playing on his TV.
Robert loved swimming and playing slots at Cache Creek, sharing breakfast with his dad at Burger King and Jack in the Box, crafting and day trips to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom with his sister, and weekend getaways at his aunties' houses. He especially loved traveling to Las Vegas, Monterey, and Disneyland. Of course, no trip was complete until he could share his newest treasures from shopping or travel (from keychains to t-shirts and light-up toys) with each member of his extended family. His most recent adventures included a trip to Palm Springs and his first cruise to the Mexican Riviera.
His family will forever cherish his gentle, happy sounds sung in private moments, his special one-word vocabulary that only those closest to him could interpret, his subtle, silly sense of humor, and his obvious way of changing the subject when he sensed he was in trouble and they had caught him doing something he wasn't supposed to do.
Robert touched many lives and was deeply loved throughout his community. He was truly a blessing to all who knew him and will be profoundly missed.
He is survived by his father, former Suisun City Mayor Pedro "Pete" Sanchez and his older sisters Rhea and Rochelle. He was preceded in death by his mother, Editha "Didi" Sanchez, who died in 1997.

Robert was a very gentle young man, giving us hi 5 whenever he saw us. He was an active member of the Fil-Am community. He had attended most of the Fil-Am events including membership meetings and was also voting on issues being discussed at times. We will miss his attendance and calm demeanor greatly! Rest in eternal peace, Robert!🙏❤️

Robert had joined us for travel in the Philippines, many years ago with his sisters and dad. He was known for being sincere in his facial expression of happiness and contentment. Needless to say, to see him and share time with him was always a pleasant one. In the last 11 days of his life, we, 26 travel buddies, cruised with Ro! We had the privilege of saying hello.... his trademark "fist bump Antee May".. This was his genuine way of showing respect and "warm greetings from the heart", because he would look into my eyes while we "fist bump"! I could say that these 11 days were spent doing what he loved to do: "Sweeeem" "lookout to the waters by their balcony" "walking the decks" "buffet meals" and lastly, "spending time with his dad, hitting the slot machine"! In fact, my last "fist bump” with Ro was the night before disembarking in San Francisco, at the ship's casino.... he looked at me with those sincere eyes filled with happiness and contentment..... not much was said, but just that trademark, that very act which made each meeting him a special one! On behalf of our cruising buddies, Ro, we will treasure that you spent your last 11 days with us. Thank you for the memory, you would always be remembered for your genuineness and authentic hello. I tried inserting a picture here, but failed Rochelle. Sorry.

Robert loved family gatherings not knowing that his presence made these kind of occasions extra special with his presence. You will be greatly missed Ro. 😔 💔

My mother, Robert’s lola Epah, would give me her old stuff like pots and pans, curtains, sheets, vases, you name it, and every time Robert saw them he would bug me and say “lola epah”. He would sometimes settle with “ i borrowed from lola”, but with disapproving look, of course. Never on old socks and shirts deemed retired for rags, though, those he tagged “lola” with his black sharpie, would definitely go back to the rightful owner
