Stephen “Steve” Eugene Daniels, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and pillar of the Westport community, passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital. He was born on August 25, 1939, in North Philadelphia to the late Evelyn Briggs-Daniels and Stephen Daniels.
A proud scholar and athlete, Steve graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia and attended the University of Pittsburgh on a soccer scholarship and graduated with a BBA in business. His collegiate accomplishments included becoming a member and president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., as well as captain of the soccer team, and most importantly, forging lifelong friendships.
On September 11, 1982, Steve married the love of his life, Cheryl Scott-Daniels. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home and dedicated themselves to family and community. A long-time resident of Westport, Connecticut, Steve poured his heart into service. He mentored local youth, served as Board Chair of the local United Way chapter, led as President of A Better Chance Westport, and was an active member of TEAM Westport. A passionate advocate for senior housing, he co-chaired the Baron’s South Project, championing dignity and opportunity for older residents. Steve was honored by the Human Services Commission for his longstanding service and commitment to improving communities.
His early professional journey took him into the shoe business. He worked as a stylist designing high-end footwear which required extensive work in factories throughout Italy. He later built a successful career at Trans World Airlines rising to Vice President of Reservations and Tours. One of his proudest achievements at TWA was when he helped to provide resources to the families of hostages following the hijacking of Flight 847 in the summer of 1985. After leaving TWA, Steve served as General Manager at Oxford Health where he opened their 300,000 square foot White Plains office in 1996. Shortly thereafter, he worked alongside his wife at Cheryl Scott-Daniels Realty from which he ultimately retired.
Steve’s life was enriched by the joys of family and the pursuits he loved. He was an avid reader, a devoted tennis player, an adventurous skier, and a curious traveler who delighted in exploring the world. Above all, he cherished time spent with friends and family, who knew him for his integrity, warmth, and quiet strength. Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Scott-Daniels, his stepson, Stephen Christopher Scott, his daughter-in-law, Dalila Wilson-Scott; his grandchildren, Kayla (20), Sean (17), and Cameron (14) and his sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and many loved nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generous spirit, steadfast leadership, and the countless lives he touched.
For those that wish to honor Steve's legacy, in lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Steve’s name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc. at www.lbda.org
The family extends heartfelt thanks to caregivers and friends who supported Steve with compassion and love. A celebration of his life will be planned by family, with details to follow.
