Souvenirs

Rexford Milton Davis, 87 of Milwaukie, Oregon passed away from a long battle with Prostate Cancer on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Rexford was born on April 4, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to Jessie Billingsley and Frank Davis. When he was in grade school, he and his family moved to Oregon. He graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1951, where he played basketball and baseball. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. While at Oregon, he was involved in ROTC, he was a basketball player for the Ducks and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Rex also enjoyed many years with family and friends as a season ticket holder for University of Oregon football. Go Ducks! Rexford married Patricia Ann Leonard on October 15, 1955 in Sellwood, Oregon. In April of 1956, Rex entered the Air Force, where he graduated from pilot training in Lubbock, Texas and then graduated as a navigator and weatherman in Waco, Texas. He then served as a First Lieutenant in Columbus, Ohio where he was a pilot and in charge of the statistics department. After the service, Rex and Patricia returned to Milwaukie, Oregon, where he began working at his father's business, Portable Equipment Company. After many years, his father sold the business and Rex went on to develop and build homes with his brother Richard. In the years before his retirement, he was a Real Estate agent. Rex was an avid fisherman his whole life, especially fly fishing. He enjoyed fishing with good friends on the Trask River, Deschutes River, Crane Prairie and Wickiup Reservoirs among many other fishing spots. His fishing trip to Alaska was always a special memory. Rex was also an avid golfer, who was a member of Willamette Valley Country Club for many years. Rex had four hole-in-ones in his lifetime, one of which won he and his wife a trip to Hawaii. Later in life, he loved golfing three times a week at Sah-Hah-Lee Golf Course and occasional golf adventures with his son-in-law and grandson. Rex and Pat loved traveling, as they were frequent visitors to Mexico, Hawaii and New York City. One of their favorite destinations was Palm Springs, where they visited often. Another highlight was a wonderful driving trip around the country. They went on several cruises and several trips to Europe and beyond, the highlight being Ephesus (a marketplace outside of Kusadasi,Turkey). Rex was a man of few words, who loved his wife, family and his many lifelong friends. He was cherished by all who knew him and will live on in the hearts of many. Rexford was preceded in death by his mother, father and his brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia, daughter Loanne and son-in-law, Hal, daughter Danielle and son-in-law Steve, granddaughter Alisha (Kenny), grandson Taylor (Emma),grandson Derrick and granddaughter Gabriella and a great-grand daughter due in January 2021. From Elaine Wiltse: I met Rex in 1954. Pat brought him over to my apartment in Portland as a surprise and II had just put my hair in "pincurls", so yes, it was a surprise. Even though Rex was a Duck and myself, a Beaver, we always got along and rooted for whichever Oregon team was playing, except for the Civil War game. Pat and Rex taught my husband and I how too play bridge an we were involved in a duplicate bridge group for years. We also had a dinner party group that met every month that was so much fun. Politics was often discussed! Rex was also a very good cook, specializing in spaghetti and clam chowder. His Greenies weren't bad, either. Rex was such a gentleman and good friend. I am so blessed to have known him for so long. He will really be missed. Elaine Wiltse
