Peter Armstrong Hart

Peter Armstrong Hart of Virginia Beach, 78 years old, died May 13, 2022, after battling a bad pancreas. 

Peter was born March 6, 1944, in Alberta Canada to Barbara Gage who married John W. Hart and was raised in New Salem NY. Upon Graduation from Voorheesville, he joined the Air Force where he froze his ass of in Nome Alaska. After the Air Force he returned to Albany NY and married Lynne Sanford in 1967 and was married to her for 25 years. He earned a master’s degree in education from SUNY Albany while also working for the State of NY. He moonlighted as a projectionist at the Madison Movie Theater in the 80’s and 90’s and LOVED every minute of it because the Rosenblatts who owned the theater were such great friends. 

Peter was a member of the New Salem Fire Department, Albany Elks Lodge and was an amateur ham radio operator going by the call sign N2FBD before changing to KV4GU. 

After retiring from NY State as a budget analyst, he worked the locks on the Erie Canal. In 2001 he escaped Albany’s cold winters and moved down to Virginia Beach, VA. In the refreshing coastal air, he continued his career on the water as a draw bridge operator on the Gilmerton Bridge in Chesapeake VA and was proud that he opened and closed the bridge quicky and never had his car windows shot out for being slow. 

He is survived by his brother Ricky, two sons Bret (Alice) & Frank (July) and grandchildren; Julia, Ian, Sophia, and Karman.
