Herman Eugene Merchant

Herman "Gene" Eugene Merchant left this world on February 2nd, 2022 at the age of 86. He was the 2nd born son out of 8 brothers from Sherman and Pauline Merchant on June 1st. 1935 in Jonesport, Maine. After graduating from Jonesport Beals Highschool in 1955, he went to UMM to study early education to become a school teacher. During his teaching career, he taught in different locations throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Gene served the lord until his final days. He went to the United Penetecostal Church in Manchester, New Hampshire where he met the love of his life Carlye Davis. They had four children together before he moved to Germany for six years to tutor families in English. After Gene retired from teaching, he worked as a sternman for many years in Jonesport, Maine. His favorite hobbies were gardening, baking and canning a wide variety of jams and jellies. Gene was predeceased by his parents, brothers; Sherman, Donald, Charles, Richard and Almond, and two grandchildren; Tegan Hills and Samantha Hin. He is survived by two brothers, Allen and Bertram Merchant, aunt Annie Davis, children Wendy Hills, Brent Merchant, Brandon Merchant and Alyson Merchant as well as 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at the United Pentecostal Church in Jonesport, Maine on February 12, 2022 at 12:00PM. Family and close friends will be welcomed
