Mary Jane Maud Kelly
August 19, 1937 – October 13, 2026
Mary Jane Maud Kelly (née Hawes), known as Jane, passed away at her home in Margate, Florida, on October 13, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, to Walter Hawes and Stella Hawes (née Bice), Jane was one of five children. She attended Bathurst Heights Collegiate and later studied psychology at the University of Toronto.
In her twenties, Jane traveled to Jamaica with friends, a trip that would change the course of her life. There she met Richard Kelly, who was home for winter break from Fordham University in New York. Following a long-distance courtship, they married and settled in Kingston, where they began their family. In 1976, the family relocated to South Florida. Over the course of her life, Jane called three countries home: Canada, Jamaica, and the United States.
Jane enjoyed a long career in banking, working in Toronto, Jamaica, and South Florida until her retirement at 65. She developed lasting relationships with her customers, often visiting elderly clients in their homes and helping them put their affairs in order. She had a particular tenderness for those who might otherwise have been forgotten.
Independent and strong-willed, with a dry sense of humor, Jane found great pleasure in the simple things. She was an accomplished cook who took great care in preparing beautiful meals, loved and bred Himalayan cats, and delighted in watching figure skating.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Richard Kelly; her parents, Stella and Walter Hawes; and three siblings, including her beloved sister Dorothy.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Kelly, Shannon Kelly (Ann), and Lauralee Kelly (Andrew); her grandchildren, Alec Kelly and Colin Kelly; and her sister, Lou.
