Jon Morris was a summer camp counselor in the early 1960’s (probably 1961 - 1963) at the (then all-boys) Georgetown Prep Day Camp in (now) Bethesda, Maryland, where I was a camper (ages 9 - 11 in that time span). He was the biggest man in physical stature I had ever known up to that time in my life, but his demeanor was gentle (yet firm!). At the time, I knew nothing of his regional and national athletic acclamation. I only knew that he was, in my experience, a low-key, positive leader - with whom there never was (as I can recall) a “ruffle in our ranks” to balk at his leading, directing, and accompanying us in our many outdoor sports activities (AND Thursday cookouts!) throughout those long-ago hot and muggy D.C. summer months. May Jon rest in peace, and his family be consoled in their loss of him.

Jon Morris was one of the great players who helped build the foundation of our franchise. For generations of Patriots fans, he represented the toughness, dedication and pride of those early teams. It meant so much to me to call Jon in 2011 and tell him he had been selected to our Hall of Fame, ensuring that his contributions would always be remembered.
Charlie Shields
Jon was co-Captain of our City Champion Gonzaga Eagles in 1959 season. He was tough, fun to be around and a real leader! I admired him greatly and followed his football career with great interest. RIP, Jon
