Vernal Lucas

Vernal Lucas, of Fremont California, passed away on April 18th 2024 at 4:48pm. He was 79 years old. He was born to Helma and Alfred Lucas in Hilo Hawaii on November 9th 1944. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force working in Accounting and Finance. His career took him to the Philippines, Vietnam, Hawaii, California, Alabama, and Colorado until he retired from the military with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He continued working several more years in Hawaii until he relocated to California where he spent most of his time helping his parents.

Vernal always had a big smile and made everyone around him feel special. He was often described as selfless and the sweetest person you could meet. He was a very proud father and enjoyed sending gifts to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time in his parent’s garden helping raise orchids and various fruit trees. 

On the day he passed, one of his final comments was “at least I don’t have to brush my teeth tonight” which brought laughter to everyone around him. He always had a clever way of making people laugh and feel comfortable. 

Vernal is survived by his children, Carol and Ronald; and his grandchildren, Madison and Nathan.
