Recuerdos

Major Sorffly Davius, 46, of New City, New York, passed away on March 6, 2026, while deployed to Kuwait in service to his country. A devoted husband, father, and public servant, Sorffly dedicated his life to protecting and serving others through military service, emergency medicine, and law enforcement.

Born in Haiti on December 25, 1979, Sorffly was raised in Cambria Heights, Queens, where his family made their home. He attended August Martin High School, where he participated in the school’s Aviation Program, fostering a lifelong fascination with aircraft. As a child, he loved building paper airplanes and flying them around the house with his sister—an early sign of the curiosity and enthusiasm that would follow him throughout his life. He went on to earn an Associate’s degree in Construction Technology from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Arts from The City College of New York, and later an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Sorffly began his career in public service as an FDNY EMT and progressed to serve as a Rescue Medic, responding to some of the city’s most complex and life-threatening emergencies.

While serving with the FDNY, he joined the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing, where he later deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from October 2010 to July 2011.

He later transferred to the New York Army National Guard, where he continued his military service. He initially served with the 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery and most recently with the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion of the 42nd Infantry Division as a Signal Officer.

During this period, Sorffly also joined the New York City Police Department, serving as a police officer assigned to the 79th Precinct in Brooklyn, while continuing his military service in the New York Army National Guard, including assignments supporting Joint Task Force Empire Shield, a homeland security mission protecting New York City’s critical infrastructure.

Most recently, Major Davius deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield / Operation Epic Fury, where he served as Deputy G-6 for the 42nd Infantry Division and as a Data Systems Engineer, helping ensure the division’s communications and operations remained effective throughout the deployment.

Throughout his military career, Major Davius earned numerous decorations recognizing his dedication and service, including the Bronze Star Medal (posthumously awarded), the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Combat Action Badge. His additional awards include the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), U.S. Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Frame, U.S. Air Force Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Humane Service to New York State Medal.

Above all else, Sorffly was a devoted husband and father whose life was grounded in faith, family, and service. Those who knew him remember a man of integrity, humor, and deep compassion. He was responsible, reliable, and resourceful—someone who could always be counted on in times of need. Sorffly treated everyone with respect, both young and old, and was fiercely protective of his family, always going above and beyond to ensure those he loved were safe and cared for.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Angeline Davius, and their six children: Ethan, Ayva, Maya, Audrey, Logan, and Leina. He is also survived by his mother, Marie Rosette Davius, of Cambria Heights, and his siblings, Christopher Davius, Sherly Davius, Judith Deshommes, Michaelle Davius, and Marie Mitius Center. He was preceded in death by his father, Jean Listin Davius.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York. A public viewing will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum in Farmingdale, New York.

Sorffly’s life was defined by service—to his family, to the people of New York City, and to the nation he proudly served in uniform.
