Silverio G. Alas

On Wednesday May 5th, 2021, our community was saddened by the passing of Silverio Guarin Alas at his family home in Warminster, PA. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Perla Arocena Alas. He is also survived by their son, David John Alas and his wife Mikyung, and their daughter Aileen Alas Galang and her husband, Edward. God also blessed him with six grandchildren, Sarah, Jacquelyn, Edward Jr., Jubilee, Hudson and Emmett. Silverio was born on June 20th, 1943 in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, Philippines to Joaquin and Felomina Alas (both deceased). He is survived by two siblings, Adel and Margarita, and is preceded in death by four siblings, Eling, Faustino, Dina and Sergio. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He was married on January 7th, 1968, and he and Perla immigrated to the United States shortly afterwards. He worked for almost 40 years as a Chemist for Bemis Medical Packaging Company and retired in 2008. He was active in the Philadelphia Filipino community, especially with the FIAT/St. Augustine prayer group. He loved being part of the FIAT music ministry and the ME choir. He particularly enjoyed taking part in many Life in the Spirit seminars and spent much time doing medical missions in the Philippines over the years. A memorial service and mass will be held at St. James R.C. Church in Elkins Park, PA on Saturday May 15th at 2pm. We are currently looking into streaming options as well, so please check back here in the next couple days for further details.
