Bobbie was my neighbor for a few years on the island, but we became close quickly because each of us had worked in mental health. Each of us were gardeners, and she'd joke that one could tell that because we wore our old worn clothes to do serious work in the garden. I learned so much about gardening in the Pacific Northwest compared to Northern California. We went to Bainbridge in Bloom together. We borrowed milk and eggs back and forth. Ping slept on my porch sometimes. And we'd have breakfast in our nightgowns! The blessings of a sympatico nextdoor neighbor cannot be understated. Her family and friends were central to her life, and I am the better for having known her. I will miss Bobbie.
