Paul "Papa Kahn" Douglas Kahn

Born in Toronto, April 12th 1951 Paul was the 6th child in his family of 9 kids. Son to George and Vivian Kahn. Husband of 50 years to Ann Kahn, father to Jennifer (Andy) and Merideth (Ian) Papa to Aiden, Finnley, Owen and Lennon. (Step grandfather to 4) 

He was loved so much by his family whom meant the world to him. In 1974 he established his home and future businesses in Oshawa Ont and soon became a prominent figure in the city’s development. With many projects over his 50 years of residence, from commercial to residential properties he was a visionary from the beginning. Sadly on August 21st we said goodbye to our beloved Papa Kahn. After 11 years of battling kidney disease, his body was finally ready to rest.

He leaves behind a true legacy, he was the ultimate entrepreneur, without even having a high school diploma he has so many accomplishments to be proud of -  as an architect, designer, developer, builder and real estate agent. *Max Homes, Merideth Development Corporation, One  Block East, Center Hall Homes *to name a few*

So many of his projects are iconic in our neighbourhoods and will live on in Durham Region and beyond. He went on to create a patent for renewable energy under the company “Switchblade Energy”-we often wonder what he would have done next if illness hadn’t limited his abilities.

His biggest passion was racing and he had a goal of being the oldest F1 driver, he was able to ride their course and he spent  years as a legend series driver as #777. Some of his proudest moments were having his family at the track cheering him on.

Papa was a true foodie and loved nothing more than going for coffee, grabbing a meal and checking out the latest new restaurant. You could often find him at your local coffee shop, cafe or resto in a booth with all his note pads & books having meetings in his “office”. He became a staff favourite wherever he went!

Keeping with the Kahn tradition there will be no funeral or service but a gathering at a later date to celebrate his legacy and a trip to the race track.  

We would like to thank the staff at Lakeridge Health & the dialysis team for their incredible care and support the past 11 years. He will be greatly missed as an 8th floor favourite.
