Michael Patrick Hamill

We are deeply saddened to share that Michael Patrick Hamill died suddenly on January 1, 2021 of apparent heart failure. He was 59 years old. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Michael’s warm smile and generous spirit made him many friends. His dedication to his family was clear to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his deep laugh, his kindness, his wise counsel, and his sense of humor. In 1995, Michael married Wendy Heavner, who shared his passion for travel, music and new adventures. They had three children together and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Michael was a good athlete and was drawn to anything to do with sports. He loved golf and successfully competed in the California Amateur golf tournament in 1992. He played college baseball for Santa Clara University’s team. He shared his love of sports as a long time Little League and AYSO youth soccer coach. He cheered on the LA Kings hockey team and the LA Galaxy soccer team and loved attending their games. After graduating from Santa Clara University and earning his CPA, his career took a winding path from public accounting, to the film and music industries, financial consulting, tech start-ups, investment banking, and biotech research firms. He was a true CFO, making sure that every penny was well spent, and was always on the lookout for the best deal. Music was an important part of his life, both as a career and a fan. He worked for many years as a CFO in the music industry, becoming a member of the Recording Academy, and even managing a hip-hop record label and reggae artist Eek-a-Mouse along the way. Michael was very involved in Culver City civic affairs, serving on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce for 10 years, including a term as board chair in 2013, and volunteering for many city advisory commissions. He is survived by his wife Wendy (Heavner), son Edison (21), daughters Erin (19), and Charlotte (13); his mother Pat Hamill; siblings Richard Hamill (Laura), Joan Kaminski (Mark), Lori Evans (Shawn), and Karen Hamill (Frank Carvajal), nieces Jessica, Alexis, Alanna, and Layla, nephew Reid, as well as many in-laws, cousins, and other family who loved him. His father James Hamill recently passed away in November 2020. In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donations be made to the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, an organization through which Michael spent a year as a volunteer teacher at an underprivileged school in Chicago.
