And these are the words that were in the program of each Artist Series performance Spring of 2022 to honor JP-- JP Osnes (1961-2021) worked at Macky Auditorium for 40 years, 36 of those years as the technical director. The structural integrity and beauty of this hall was a part of his being. He thrived having the consistency of training and guiding a top-notch crew with the diversity of the wide array of artists, musicians, and prominent speakers who graced the Macky stage. JP is ever loved by his wife, Beth, and his children, Peter, Melisande, and Lerato.

I only learned today about J.P.'s passing. J.P. was one of the most unique people I have ever met, and my singular friend during our college years. He never let me forget that he was seven days older than I! Once I graduated from CU Boulder, we lost touch. It brings back memories here to read Kyle's tribute, since it was through Kyle Landrum that J.P. and I first met. We were roommates at "the house" for about four years and even today, those years are precious to me. J.P. was wicked smart and intuitive; he was creative, always thinking outside of the box. He could be kind, but also sharp and even then, he had that twinkle in his eye that bespoke of an old soul. Even though we have not spoken many years, life taking us in different directions, know that I love you man. My love and respect to Beth and his children. I cannot imagine a world without J.P. in it.
Kyle Landrum
I am shocked and saddened to hear of JP's passing. At one time he and I were very close friends, in high school and a few years of college at CU. Though we haven't been in touch over the past twenty years or so, I did think of him often and wonder how life was treating him. He was truly a gentle soul, a loving, intuitive, intellectual and inquisitive man who had a passion for life and the arts. This world will be the poorer without him. I am so very sorry to hear of this and my heart goes out to Beth and his children. He was truly a unique man and I know he will be missed terribly by everyone he touched.

It is time to contribute an obituary for our dearly departed JP-- Osnes. J.Philip, retired, 60, of Boulder, Colorado died November 19, 2021of a heart attack in his sleep at home next to a woman who loved him. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Beth, three children, Peter (29, and his wife, Esther MacKenzie), Melisande (27), and Lerato (18). A public ceremony to honor his life was held at Macky Concert Hall on November 26, 2021 with his family and friends. JP served as the technical director for Macky Concert Hall at the University of Colorado for 40 years. During this time, he also designed lights and settings for many local dance companies, musicians, and operas. In his short retirement he enjoyed time with his family, cooking, hikes throughout Boulder Open Space, and playing golf. He loved to read, watch truly unusual films, and explain things. His only sibling, Jeneen Osnes, preceded him in death by six months. His father was John W. Osnes, and his mother was BettyJo Osnes (neé Shishkowsky). He was thought to be wise by his family and friends, enjoyed traveling throughout his life, and was an enthusiastic fan of K-Pop and J-Pop. He was a pillar of support for the arts within Boulder and for his family who loves him.

I am so sad to hear this news. JP was one of the shinier points of my experience at Lakewood High School in the late '70s, and I found him wise, funny, and endearingly full of himself (the latter characteristic mellowed in the years after high school). I visited the house but a few times (deeply envious of the dance space in the back yard), and was delighted to make Beth's acquaintance so long ago. My deep sympathy goes to all of you who are current in JP's orbit; he has many of us who hold his memory dear even though we've not been in touch recently. Just last week in the midst of excavating memorabilia, I unearthed a copy of his senior research paper from 1979: I was looking forward to sharing it with him! Now, I will read it with heart full and tender.
