Henry was a good and gracious person -- whose support and encouragement were sustaining in my first years as his colleague in the history department. I shall be ever grateful to him for his smile, his hugs, and his good counsel. I was very lucky to have seen him recently -- in the grocery store -- and I got another smile and another hug and another bit of advice. My world is reduced by his absence from it.

Henry was a great colleague and friend. He always had a great story to tell over lunch (Taco Taco tended to be a favorite). He had a fascinating family history and many travel adventures to recount and talked often of his children, grandchildren, and siblings. I'm glad those who were so dear to him were able to spend time with him in his final days. He was one of the most convivial people I've known--big-hearted, generous of spirit, and always full of joie de vivre.

He was an incredible teacher. He was very passionate about it. He'd pace back snd forth as he lectured, stopping occasionally and trurning toward us to passionately make an important point in what seemed like the voice of God or something like it but very Henry. I learned so much from him.i took every class he taught while I was at Weber. I've thought about him often sine then. He was a good man and a fantastic teacher.
