I was on a walk with my beautiful dog in nature. Nature is my church and just thought of Jim and the memories of our families. Especially the cabin times. Just was thinking how very odd he is gone. Gone, never forgotten and certain we all will be together eventually.

Lisa and I are up north and she took this video/photo of the lake. We sat here and toasted Jim with cold white wine and a lager made with coffee (not Peet's) and spent some time sitting and listening to the water, the frogs, birds, dragonflies. The last time we saw Jim was in Napa Valley. Lori, Jim, Lisa and I went on a cheesy ghost tour in some wine caves. Big fun. Afterwards, we had a nice picnic lunch and talked for a long time in the shade of some trees near an old winery. I remember, at the end of the day, it took us all a long time say good bye. Lisa and I will miss him terribly. Much love and sympathy to Jim's family and friends.

Jim was the first person I met when I moved to San Francisco with Karen Kozacki. We went to dinner at a Thai place on Divisadero- the older brother of one of my dearest friends, Gregg. Jim acted as tour guide and mentor to a city I love and music I cherish. This began a decades long respect for the man with the gentle smile, kind and generous soul, a wicked sense of humor and astounding musical knowledge. He took us to music stores up and down the Haight. Rough Trade, Amoeba, the one on the corner of Masonic and Haight, and the small one further toward Divisadero. He knew so many people… The first show I saw in Berkeley was at the Plough and Stars with Jim, Karen and others listening to the Bedlam Rovers. My very favorite memory which always comes to mind when I think of Jim started with a walk to his flat on Ashbury. Holy Bagels were picked up. It had been an excessive night before, one not matched since. Jim opened the door with a welcome, knowing grin. Gentle greetings were exchanged, Jim then proceeded to play Trampoline by Julian Cope over and over. One midwestern winter Jim returned home with Gregg and we ended up drinking beer and listening to music at a friends house in Schoolcraft, MI. At some point, it was decided a romp in the snow was to be had. Snowballs flew, I hit Jim in the face with my poor aim. I would have gladly pummeled any other person there (Gregg, Brett, Sean…) Mortified as I was, the stunned Kotsonas gave his chuckle and we headed in for more beer. I left SF many years ago but Karen would always keep me in the loop. I remember when she told me Jim had met Lori. FB is not good for much but I was able to see the life Lori and Jim created together. 7 years ago I posted a need to find someone in Iowa who might have access to tickets to see Jane Goodall, Jim responded first, he was on it. He is the guy you want to have a drink with, to get his take on life and music. This is a quiet loss for me. So outside the realm of possibility, he is the guy you might not see for years but if you needed something, he would be there. The loss, colossal. The world, less vibrant. I am just so happy our stories entwined. One night when my world is quiet, I'm going to settle into my favorite chair, listen to the Bedlam Rovers and take my first sip of scotch. One last thing Jim Kotsonas can introduce me to.

We listened to Jim and Lori's wedding cd this afternoon.
