Loved Ones

This is a memorial to my parents as a couple, and a tribute to their marriage which lasted more than 61 years. They were each other's soul mate, partner, support and strength, through better and worse. Together they provided a wonderful example of how God can both lead and bless a couple throughout their lives. They provided leadership and affirmation to many through their years of involvement in Marriage Encounter; sharing with humor, encouragement, mutual understanding and honest communication (through years of practice) how God’s love can inspire a durable marriage. They were also wonderful parents.

Please join me in celebrating their love and lives together by leaving a memory, picture(s) or shared experience with them.

[This page links to their individual memorials. Though they are obviously not “siblings”, there was no other way to accommodate and honor them as a couple on this website. Also, I haven't been able to get everything from their apartment, so I'm still missing their wedding photos. Hopefully soon.]

Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Jerry took time out of their trips to visit me a couple of times in different places. One was in Virginia when I was around 19 or 20, and they took me to Williamsburg, where there was a mock-up of settlers' homesteads. We walked around enjoying the scenes when it began to rain. We ran under a bridge for shelter, and Jerry sang a song, "Its a happy day, and I thank God for the weather..." I often think of that song and smile! I always remember Dorothy as caring and concerned about me, and her smile was infectious. I am grateful to them for their kind visits and their love.

My Aunt Dot and Uncle Jerry were people of faith and strong belief. I learned so much about Marriage Encounter from them in the brief conversations we had about that. We didn't see them often enough yet I felt their passing keenly. They were the last of that generation of our elders to cross over. I respect their deep love and dedication to each other, God, the church and their family, such an example they gave us. Thank you for being those respected elders and giving so much to so many others as well. I'll always love you. Linda Allin

They were so inspirational in our church, the Onalaska Community Presbyterian church. Always smiling and happy. And Dorothy was always up to playing the piano. I’m so sorry for your loss. From Audrey Glaas and family.

Many of our visits were around food and I remember always enjoying Aunt Dorothy's cooking. When I think of her I see her with an apron on, chatting and laughing with us in the kitchen. The whole family would play Uno after dinner because Beth loved that card game. It was so delightful. Uncle Jerry and Aunt Dorothy were so encouraging to our kids. Always including them in conversation and being interested in who they were. When my daughter, Tandiwhe, had a grand mal seizure I felt like I was supposed to have Uncle Jerry pray over her. When I called him he was so excited because he felt the Lord had just directed him to begin a healing ministry and this was confirmation to him. I took Tandiwhe down to his church the night they had their first healing prayer meeting. Uncle Jerry, and the few people who had gathered, laid hands on her and prayed. It remains one of my fondest memories. We began gradually backing off her seizure medication and sure enough, she never had another one (much to our doctor's surprise, who was strongly against reducing her medication). I wish I knew where I stashed our old photographs. I so enjoyed seeing the ones you shared.
