Frank Weber, Dds
Hello! My name is Frank Weber and I was a friend of Jay's at Texas Tech in the late 90s. I was really saddened and heartbroken about hearing of his death the other day. I know that he is with the Lord now. He had a strong and unshakeable faith. I sadly had not seen him since I graduated from Tech in 2000. I have lived up the road in Canyon since 2010 and go to Lubbock a fair amount. But I had no idea that he had become such a media personality in Lubbock and would have really loved to talk with him about many of the political and social events that have happened since college including the directions of Tech, the state, the country, Christianity, etc. I know we agreed on a lot of things back then and it would have been really fun to see what, if any, views had changed for us in our older ages. We both had no love for President Clinton, and if I recall correctly, he was met with some resistance initially at The University Daily as it leaned an idealistic college left direction. But people loved his cartoons and commentary so they had to let him keep going. I knew him from the Texas Tech Wesley Foundation and there were a lot of great memories there. A group of us went to an Abernathy High (where he is from) football game once and it was a truly unique experience. I remember he had them recognize our group on the PA system. Afterward, the whole town, along with both teams, ate together at a local restaurant. I have not seen anything like that before or since! We were also at the same table/group for a Walk to Emmaus in January 1999. Jay was extremely worried about his girlfriend of the time going to Spain for an exchange program and being stolen away by a Spaniard. We teased him about that. We also got the leader of the meeting, Pastor Phil McLendon, in some trouble for a mooning stunt that he and group leader Larry wanted to do and got us all at the table to do. This seems like a polite place so I won't describe it here further. Anyway, Jay was kind with a big heart and had a real care for people that sprang out of his love for Jesus. We had a lot of good talks ourselves between us. Our personal styles were a little different though. He was very direct while I was thought to be more laid back. I think that is about all I have to say here. I do not want to shamelessly plug myself, so please forgive me, but I was touched enough to pay tribute to him on my little podcast called Frank Weber's Party! That episode will be out October 13th and includes more details of events like the Emmaus mooning. There are some explicit words (but not many), so be forewarned. I still can't believe he's gone. He will be greatly missed. Truly a great man. I have and will continue to keep him and his family in my prayers. Thank you for the opportunity to share this. Frank Weber, DDS Canyon, TX
