Carole A. McCarthy

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Carole A. McCarthy, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Monday June 29, 2020. She left us peacefully with family by her side following a courageous battle against melanoma. She was in her 76 th year. Born o n May 24, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Galvin) Holmes from Wellesley, Massachusetts. Carole attended nursing school and pursued an extraordinarily rewarding Nursing career. Carole cared deeply for her patients. Reflecting on her career, Carole rested comfortably knowing that, in all th ose moments requiring her care and compassion, she indeed was there. The respect and appreciation she held for her nursing colleagues and for those that cared for her during her battle with cancer was immeasurable. Carole married Charles Justin McCarthy of Boston Massachusetts in August of 1965 who preceded her in death in 2001. They enjoyed gardening, boating the lakes of Southern Maine and the seas of Clearwater Florida, day trips, a friendly game of cribbage, fishing and furthermost time spent with family and friends. In addition to relishing her time with family and friends Carole loved music, watching football "The Pat's", New England's 4 distinct seasons especially "Nor'easters", was highly skilled with sewing needles, knitting needles and crochet hooks and delighted in her countless bursting flower g ardens. Carole A McCarthy (formerly of North Reading, Massachusetts), retired for several years, lived in Limerick, Maine with her long-time companion Arthur Lavoie. Carole and Arthur treasured precious moments with their grandchildren, bird watching, Sunday dinners, watching NFL games, Hallmark movies and staying warm by roaring fire on cold winter days. Carole is survived by her long-time companion Arthur Lavoie; her sons Chuck McCarthy and Shawn McCarthy; her daughter Kim Mullen; her grandchildren CJ, Matthew and Kiley McCarthy, Sarah and Hannah Mullen; her Aunt Rita Galvin and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Carole was preceded in death by her brother Donald Holmes in 2005. She was regarded by all as a loving, warm and compassionate presence who brought joy, laughter, sparkle and comfort effortlessly. In keeping with the wishes of Carole there were no funeral services. We will gather on a future date TBD to celebrate Carole's life.
