Brian David “Dave” Sawyer
October 3, 1944 – October 6, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brian David “Dave” Sawyer on October 6, 2026, just three days after celebrating his 82nd birthday.
Dave will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Sharon; his children, Sherry (Kimball), Brent (Jen), Jenny and Christine; and his cherished grandchildren, Reese, Charlotte, Nicholas (Nick), Jonathon, Amanda and Stephanie. He will also be lovingly remembered by his family in England, with whom he shared a lifelong connection.
Dave was an extraordinary man whose kindness, generosity and unwavering support made the lives of those around him better. Hardworking, honest and deeply devoted to his family, he led by example and was always there when it mattered most. He had a remarkable way of making everyone around him feel special, valued and genuinely cared for. Whether through a thoughtful gesture, a word of encouragement, or simply taking the time to listen, Dave made people feel that they mattered. He was our rock, a source of strength, love and guidance, and his influence will live on through the countless lives he touched.
An avid sports enthusiast, Dave loved his Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Maple Leafs and especially hockey. Affectionately known as “Coach,” his coaching journey began in minor hockey and continued well into the boys' beer league years, where he was the only known coach of a beer league team, a title he held with tremendous pride. He loved the game, the camaraderie and, above all, simply being part of the team.
Dave took tremendous pride in his grandchildren and loved attending their sporting events and activities.
Dave's happy place was his cottage at Featherstone Point, where he enjoyed fishing, friendships and sunsets from his beloved “Sunset Rock.” A beloved character in the cottage community, Dave was affectionately known by many nicknames, including “the Mayor,” “Classic,” “English Dave” and, of course, “Coach,” just to name a few. He treasured the friendships he made there and devoted countless hours to researching and preserving Featherstone Point's history in a book.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dave's cherished friends and community at Featherstone Point for their kindness, friendship and unwavering support, and to the dedicated team at the Heart Function Clinic for their compassionate care.
In keeping with Dave's wishes, cremation will take place, with no visitation or funeral service.
Our lives are richer for having loved him, and the world is a little less bright without him. Forever loved, deeply missed and never forgotten.

Dad, there are no words that can describe how much I will miss you and how much you meant to me. You were my dad, my coach, my biggest supporter and one of the greatest influences in my life. I learned so much from you about family, being a father and the kind of man I wanted to become. We had a lot of fun over the years and made some incredible memories, but I think some of the most important lessons you taught me came during the difficult times. You showed me that character isn’t measured by the challenges we face, but by how we choose to face them. You taught me to persevere when things get tough, stand by what I believe in and do what’s right, even when it’s not the easiest path. To lead with compassion, treat people with respect and never lose sight of your values. You also showed me what it means to be a father. To be there for your family, to support and encourage them, but also to set standards, expect accountability and teach the hard lessons when they’re needed. You didn’t just talk about those things. You lived them. As a father myself, I understand and appreciate those lessons more than ever. So much of who I am today, both as a man and a father, comes from the example you set. I’m incredibly proud to be your son. Thank you for everything, Dad. I hope I can continue to make you proud. Rest easy, young fella. Love you ❤️
